Job description

Group 1001 is a consumer-centric, technology-driven family of insurance companies on a mission to deliver outstanding value and operational performance by combining financial strength and stability with deep insurance expertise and a can-do culture. Group1001’s culture emphasizes the importance of collaboration, communication, core business focus, risk management, and striving for outcomes. This goal extends to how we hire and onboard our most valuable assets – our employees.

Why This Role Matters:

Group 1001 is seeking a curious, collaborative, and driven Workday Configuration Analyst to help us optimize and evolve our Workday Payroll environment. In this role, you'll work alongside experienced HR, Payroll Operations, and IT partners who will support your growth as you take on increasing ownership of our payroll configuration and related modules. You'll have the opportunity to develop deep subject matter expertise while contributing to meaningful projects that directly impact our employees' experience. If you're someone who enjoys solving problems, learning how systems connect, and partnering with others to deliver great outcomes — we'd love to hear from you.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Partner with Payroll Operations, HR, and IT teams to configure, support, and optimize the Workday US Payroll module.
  • Collaborate with senior team members to troubleshoot and resolve payroll-related issues, including integrations, data loads, and tax configurations.
  • Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate business needs into effective system configurations.
  • Support end-to-end Payroll projects — from discovery through testing and deployment — with guidance from cross-functional partners.
  • Identify opportunities for payroll automation, process improvements, and configuration enhancements.
  • Help maintain Workday Time Tracking configuration to ensure seamless integration with payroll processing.
  • Ensure absence plans and benefit elections interface accurately with payroll calculations.
  • Participate in testing and deployment of configuration changes, post-implementation enhancements, and upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain Workday reports, dashboards, and user documentation.
  • Stay current with Workday releases and contribute ideas for adopting new features and best practices.
  • Leverage AI tools, prompt engineering, and other emerging technologies to research solutions, accelerate troubleshooting, and arrive at optimal configurations efficiently.

What We're Looking For :

  • Workday Payroll certification or active pursuit of certification.
  • Experience with other Workday modules (e.g., Time Tracking, Absence, Benefits, Core HCM) a plus.
  • Exposure to payroll tax configuration, garnishments, or year-end processing (W-2s).
  • Experience supporting multi-state US payroll.
  • 2–5 years of hands-on experience configuring Workday, with a focus on or strong exposure to the US Payroll module.
  • Familiarity with Workday Time Tracking and how it integrates with payroll.
  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, IT, or a related field.
  • A collaborative mindset — you enjoy working with others, asking questions, and learning from cross-functional partners.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills, with a growing ability to see interdependencies across modules.
  • Comfort using AI assistants, prompt-based tools, and other technology to research, problem-solve, and work more efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts in a business-friendly way and build productive relationships with stakeholders.
  • A self-motivated approach — you take initiative, seek out answers, and aren't afraid to dig into an issue.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and stay organized in a dynamic environment.
