Roles & Responsibilities

  • CCP degree from an accredited perfusion education program and certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) (or board-eligible with certification obtained within the agreed timeframe).
  • Current New York State license (or eligibility; must be secured prior to start) and BLS/ACLS certification (or within 90 days of hire).
  • 1–3+ years of independent adult cardiac perfusion experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical rotations encouraged to apply; prior experience with ECMO, cell salvage, and advanced blood management strongly preferred.
  • Proven proficiency with modern perfusion platforms, strong communication skills, and ability to work effectively in a collaborative team to ensure patient safety.

Requirements:

  • Manage cardiopulmonary bypass and support mechanical circulatory technologies during cardiothoracic surgery, ensuring patient safety through teamwork and clear communication.
  • Collaborate with surgical and ICU teams to implement blood conservation strategies, including ECMO and cell salvage where appropriate, and stay up to date with modern platforms to improve patient outcomes.
  • Maintain perfusion equipment, perform turnover, sampling and monitoring, and participate in scheduled department meetings to support operations.
  • Contribute to staff education and professional development by sharing knowledge, safety practices, and strategies to improve patient outcomes.

Responsibilities:

The Cardiovascular perfusionist is primarily focused on clinical support with the management of cardiopulmonary bypass, supporting mechanical circulatory technologies as well as participate in blood conservation strategies in collaboration with our surgical and ICU team.  They will need to be proficient and up to date with modern platforms, have strong communication skills and use teamwork to ensure patient safety.  The perfusionist we will aid in education, working with staff to advance practical knowledge, safety and strategies to improve patient outcomes.  Beyond clinical responsibilities the perfusionist would be responsible for equipment care, turnover, sampling / monitoring as well as participate in scheduled department meetings.

Compensation for the role is $390,000. - $487,500. (annual)

 


Garnet Health System provides a compensation range to comply with the New York State law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements.  The range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.  When determining a team member’s compensation and/or rate, several factors may be considered as applicable (e.g., location, specialty, service line, years of relevant experience, education, credentials, negotiated contracts, budget and internal equity).

Qualifications:
Minimum Education: 
• CCP degree - Graduate of an accredited perfusion education program (certified through the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion) is required.
 
Minimum Experience: 
• New graduates with strong clinical rotations are encouraged to apply.
• 1–3+ years of independent adult cardiac perfusion experience preferred.
• Prior experience with ECMO, cell salvage, and advanced blood management strongly preferred.
 
Required Certification/Registration:
• Certified Clinical Perfusionist (CCP) by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion (ABCP) (or board-eligible with certification obtained within agreed timeframe).
• Current New York State license (or eligibility; must be secured prior to start).
• BLS and ACLS required (or within 90 days of hire).
 
Physical Requirements:  
• Light to medium work: The ability to stand for prolonged periods of time as well as move/position equipment (with assistance as needed).
• Manual dexterity and visual/auditory acuity sufficient for equipment operation and monitoring.
• Use of PPE in sterile and semi-restricted environments.
 
Working Conditions:
• Environmental Demands and Exposure to Hazards: Works in a clean, well-lighted, heated or ventilated facility.  No routine exposure to hazards.
• For Remote and Hybrid Remote positions:   If deemed operationally necessary, position may be required to report in and work on-site. 
• Physical Demands: Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate computer and office equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Ability to lift 10 lbs.
• Mental Demands: Ability to foster collaborative relationships, to work well under pressure, to organize and synthesize new information, and prioritize tasks. Possesses critical thinking, analytical skills and flexibility. Ability to multi-task. Required detailed attention to work in an environment where interruptions cannot be controlled. Demonstrates sensitivity to customer needs and expectations. May be subject to irregular hours including evenings or potentially weekends to participate in operational and community events as necessary.
