Northrop Grumman’s Aeronautics Systems sector is seeking a Sr. Principal Flight Avionics Responsible Engineer to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals in defining the future.  This position will be located in Melbourne, FL and will be based within our office spaces to support the program and business needs. Operating on our 9/80 schedule means you will get every other Friday off. This position has NO Hybrid or Remote work available.  

The Senior Engineer Electronics will be responsible for developing and executing the program.  This person will serve as a senior engineer, leading Avionics Integration of Aircraft flight deck Systems and co-ordination of the Testing and Integration of Avionics Integration systems into lab environments.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Leading Avionics Integration engineering for the integration of aircraft flight deck systems and components with a focus on Fight Navigation and Guidance systems involving Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) technologies

  • Serve as the point of contact for the informal and formal testing of  Avionics subsystem requirements in lab, troubleshooting hardware in the lab.

  • Lead in the preparation and support the verification of aircraft avionics and Prime Mission Equipment installations and aircraft certification documents.

  • Provides Critical Skills to teams with internal and external knowledge of the technical industry and how it impacts the company; serves as an expert for Avionics PNT Integration.

  • Lead support for the development of system safety documents.

  • Lead the integration of PNT systems with mission systems.

  • Create aircraft system schematics to support air vehicle wiring diagrams.

  • Lead requirements development and analysis supporting trade studies.

  • Manage suppliers, review and analysis of supplier design data, definition of functional test requirements including acceptance, qualification, and system integration, and support test execution.

  • Supporting flight test activities and post flight data analysis, and resolution of flight test anomalies.

A successful Flight Avionics Engineer has good leadership skills and understands the scope of the work and the impact of the work on other teams. This individual consistently brings up concerns, issues and risks, and holds themselves to a high level of technical rigor.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 8 years of related professional/military experience in Engineering, or Master's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) discipline from an accredited university and 6 years of related professional/military experience.

  • Experience with MIL-STD-1553, ARINC 429, and Ethernet communication protocols

  • Integration and testing of aircraft flight deck systems and components including Position, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) equipment and other various avionics systems with the capability to support trade studies.

  • Experience with Supplier Management of avionics equipment

  • Experience with at least one of the flight certification standards listed in the preferred qualifications (PBN, RNAV, RNP, DO-178/254/200/160)

  • Experience with system modeling and requirements management tools (Cameo, DOORS, Rhapsody, etc.), developing/maturing requirements, and tracing requirements through various levels

  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated government Top-Secret clearance, and any program access required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Performance Based Navigation (PBN) experience and attaining PBN certification

  • Experience in designing RTCA DO-254 hardware standard for airborne electronic systems

  • Experience designing RTCA DO-200 standard for processing aeronautical data

  • Experience designing RTCA DO-160 and MIL-STD-810 standards for environmental qualifications

  • Experience with Earned Value Management

  • Confluence and Jira Experience

Primary Level Salary Range: $122,800.00 - $184,200.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
