Description of Work
The Northern Sites Manager is responsible for the stewardship of three northern sites of the North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve: the Currituck Banks component of the North Carolina National Estuarine Research Reserve and the state Kitty Hawk Woods and Buxton Woods components, totaling 3,782 acres. The geographic difference between the three sites and remoteness of the sites requires an incumbent to work independently under general supervision.Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

The Division of Coastal Management:
The Division of Coastal Management (DCM) works to protect, conserve, and manage North Carolina’s coastal resources through an integrated program of planning, permitting, education and research. DCM carries out the state’s Coastal Area Management Act, the Dredge and Fill Law and the federal Coastal Zone Management Act of 1972 in the 20 coastal counties, using rules and policies of the NC Coastal Resources Commission, known as the CRC. The North Carolina Coastal Reserve and National Estuarine Research Reserve (Reserve) program is one of three sections within the North Carolina Division of Coastal Management (DCM). The purposes of the Reserve are to:
Acquire, protect, and manage areas representative of North Carolina coastal ecosystems. Conduct long-term research and monitoring to promote sound management of these ecosystems. Increase understanding of these ecosystems, their importance, and the effects humans have on them; and Accommodate compatible traditional uses.

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.
Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in one of the agricultural, biological, engineering, environmental or natural resource sciences or a closely related curriculum from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.EEO Statement
