Our motto is "All Stripes Welcome," and we put that into practice by valuing both traditional and non-conventional backgrounds and perspectives. Our Zeebs are passionate about learning, growing, and working together to tackle exciting problems.

We are looking for a Part-Time Payroll Expert to join our HR / People Team to own and manage the payroll process from start to finish on a 15-20 hours-per-week schedule. The ideal candidate has deep experience in payroll processing and is a power user of Paylocity.

Location

While we are open to remote work across the contingent US, we are still in the process of establishing our company to support work in all states. We operate on a hybrid model that offers flexibility for fully remote, in-office, or mixed schedules.

Please note: We currently cannot support work based out of the following states: CA, MA

What You’ll Do

In this specialized part-time role, you will be the primary owner of our payroll accuracy and database integrity:

  • Payroll Ownership: Implement, maintain, and review payroll processing to ensure timely and accurate transactions including salaries, benefits, garnishments, taxes, and deductions.

  • Data Management: Maintain the employee database regarding salary and pay, including updates for new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes.

  • Compliance: Ensure strict compliance with federal, state, and local payroll, wage, and hour laws.

  • Reporting & Audits: Prepare and maintain accurate records of payroll transactions within our Human Resources Information System(s) and facilitate routine audits.

  • Collaboration: Address and resolve employee complaints relating to the payroll system or paycheck issues.

  • Ad-hoc Projects: Work on payroll-related audits and projects as they arise.

What We’re Looking For

We need a detail-oriented expert who can hit the ground running with the following qualifications:

  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in Payroll/HR Operations, specifically within a fast-paced environment.

  • Technical Expertise: In-depth experience with Paylocity is required for this role.

  • Software Skills: Strong computer literacy, preferably with Excel wizardry.

  • Legal Knowledge: Strong knowledge of nationwide tax and wage laws and common fiscal procedures.

  • Operational Insight: Working knowledge of HR functions, including pay and benefits.

  • Soft Skills: Exceptional multitasking skills, high attention to detail, and a compassionate nature when resolving employee issues.

  • The "Unicorn" Factor: Experience with benefit audits is highly preferred.

Benefits & Perks

Even in a part-time capacity, we believe in taking care of our Zeebs:

  • Inclusion: Participate in or create your own Employee Resource Groups.

  • Financial Growth: Competitive compensation and Stock Option offering.

  • Retirement: 401k with company match.

  • Wellness: A wellness perk of $100/month.

  • Pet Friendly: Pet adoption reimbursement of $300/year.

  • Development: Access to learning and development opportunities.

The base salary range for this position is $35-$40 per hour. The final salary amount will be determined based on a variety of factors, including experience, skills, internal equity, and insights gained throughout the interview process.
