Position Overview
The Cloud Architect specializes in developing computing strategies that incorporate cloud adoption plans, application design, management, and monitoring for cloud-native and hybrid cloud environments. Serving as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) responsible for the supervision of cloud computing systems, the Architect oversees cloud application designs, approval plans, and the systems required to manage cloud storage.
The Cloud Architect provides technical leadership as an escalation point for all personnel performing cloud applications, migration functions, and architecture planning. This role provides expert-level advice to Government stakeholders regarding architecture options, best practices, and methodologies to integrate cloud solutions and resolve complex mission problems.
Major Activities
- Strategy & Architecture:
- Create a well-informed cloud strategy and manage the end-to-end migration process.
- Identify top cloud architecture solutions to successfully meet the strategic needs of the organization.
- Build new cloud architecture designs to support master planning initiatives.
- Validate and synchronize cloud architecture plans with other United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC architecture teams.
- Ensure alignment of Program Team plans and deliverables to the Government’s overarching architecture.
- Engineering & Implementation:
- Develop Cloud Engineering and Implementation Plans (EIPs) and present innovative solutions to leadership.
- Collaborate with application teams to migrate existing applications from Virtual Machine (VM) servers into the target cloud environment.
- Develop and execute enterprise-level technical migration efforts, including on-premises Private Cloud and off-premises Public Cloud environments.
- Offer guidance in infrastructure movement techniques, including bulk application transfers.
- Support simultaneous baselines for cloud platforms and associated configurations.
- Operations & Collaboration:
- Regularly evaluate cloud applications, hardware, and software while organizing cloud systems.
- Work closely with Cyber Security teams to monitor and ensure cloud privacy and compliance.
- Approve and provide corrections to cloud services and deliverables provided by the engineering team.
- Research and advise the Government on emerging cloud technologies and their feasibility.
- Respond to and resolve technical issues in a professional and timely manner.
- Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Abilities
- Sufficient fine motor skills for the use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive keyboarding for extended periods of time.
- Ability to work in confined rack spaces.
- Visual and communications ability are adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis.
- Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion.
- Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Must hold a current CompTIA Security+ (Sec+) Certification.
- Minimum 5 years of IT solutions architecture experience, including at least 3 years designing, deploying, and supporting cloud-based solutions.
- Proven experience in Systems and Network Engineering.
- Experience in the analysis and design of integrating government systems.
- Must possess and maintain an active DoD Secret personnel clearance (or have the ability to obtain one).
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with Salesforce.
- Experience with Red Hat OpenShift.
