Job description

Porch Group is a leading vertical software and insurance platform and is positioned to be the best partner to help homebuyers move, maintain, and fully protect their homes. We offer differentiated products and services, with homeowners insurance at the center of this relationship. We differentiate and look to win in the massive and growing homeowners insurance opportunity by 1) providing the best services for homebuyers, 2) led by advantaged underwriting in insurance, 3) to protect the whole home.

As a leader in the home services software-as-a-service (“SaaS”) space, we’ve built deep relationships with approximately 30 thousand companies that are key to the home-buying transaction, such as home inspectors, mortgage companies, and title companies.

In 2020, Porch Group rang the Nasdaq bell and began trading under the ticker symbol PRCH. We are looking to build a truly great company and are JUST GETTING STARTED.

Job Title: Director of Engineering, Inspection

Location: United States Workplace

Type: Remote

Job Summary

The future is bright for Porch Group, and we would love for you to be a part of it as our Director of Engineering, Inspection (Head of Engineering, Inspection). In this role, you will lead the global engineering organization for our Inspection businesses, reporting to the GM of Inspection, and partnering closely with Product, Operations, Sales, Customer Success, and Marketing leadership to build reliable, scalable, and customer-centric software. You will be responsible for engineering strategy, team development, technical execution, and operational excellence across the Inspection platform and related systems.

This leader will play a critical role in shaping the technology vision for Inspection, improving the speed and quality of delivery, and ensuring our products and platforms continue to support growth for customers, inspectors, and partners. The right candidate will bring strong business judgment, thrive in ambiguity, communicate with clarity, and lead effectively through organizational change.

You'll do more than lead within your org — you'll drive meaningful change in how engineering operates across the Inspection domain while influencing leaders beyond the business through thought leadership, operating model improvements, and shared technology standards. You'll drive the adoption of agentic AI — autonomous, multi-step systems that operate with minimal human intervention — to improve delivery speed, software quality, and operational effectiveness, and you'll establish the systems, standards, and metrics that connect engineering outcomes to durable business and customer impact.

What You Will Do As A Director of Engineering, Inspection

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire engineering managers and engineers across multiple cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software experiences for customers, inspectors, and partners.
  • Own the engineering strategy, technical direction, and execution roadmap for the Inspection business, aligning investments and priorities to business outcomes and customer needs.
  • Partner closely with Product and cross-functional leadership to align roadmap decisions, delivery priorities, and resourcing with short and long-term business goals.
  • Provide technical leadership to build, scale, and evolve the Inspection platform, solving complex challenges across applications, services, integrations, data workflows, and multiple software stacks.
  • Drive high standards for architecture, code quality, reliability, security, observability, and performance, ensuring systems are resilient and scalable.
  • Champion agentic AI development across the engineering organization, setting standards for how autonomous systems are designed, deployed, and maintained in production.
  • Establish strong operating rhythms across planning, prioritization, delivery, incident management, and retrospectives to improve predictability and execution excellence.
  • Develop and cultivate strong relationships between engineering teams and cross-functional partners across the organization.
  • Attract, retain, and develop top engineering talent, including managers and senior individual contributors, while building clear career paths and succession plans.
  • Set clear goals and performance expectations, providing regular feedback and coaching to ensure high standards and sustainable results.
  • Lead through organizational change with steadiness, transparency, and strong judgment, introducing new operating models and practices where needed.
  • Improve engineering effectiveness through strong SDLC practices, data-driven decision making, and thoughtful tooling and process improvements.
  • Manage engineering budgets, headcount planning, vendor relationships, and resource allocation in support of business priorities.
  • Ensure systems and practices meet security, privacy, compliance, and business continuity requirements.
  • Help mature Porch's distributed engineering strategy, leading effectively in a fully remote environment.

What You Will Bring As A Director of Engineering, Inspection

  • BS/BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree and/or MBA is a plus.
  • 15+ years of progressively responsible experience in software engineering and technology leadership.
  • 8+ years leading engineering teams, including managing managers and scaled organizations.
  • Proven success owning engineering strategy and execution for a major product area, platform, or business line.
  • Strong track record of leading teams through modernization, platform evolution, or significant operating change.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate autonomously, navigate ambiguity, and bring structure and momentum to complex challenges.
  • Experience with modern cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, APIs, and data-intensive platforms.
  • Hands-on experience designing and deploying agentic AI systems in production — autonomous workflows with real decision-making logic, tool use, and minimal human intervention — not AI-assisted developer tooling.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical leaders.
  • Preferred: Experience in vertical SaaS, home services, real estate, inspections, or adjacent workflow-driven industries.
  • Preferred: Experience with scheduling, routing, mobile tools, field operations software, partner integrations, or transaction-based platforms.
  • Preferred: Experience leading engineering teams through modernization, platform simplification, or meaningful scale improvements.

The application window for this position is anticipated to close in 2 weeks (10 business days) from 4/28/2026. Please know this may change based on business and interviewing needs.
