Roles & Responsibilities

  • Proven experience and demonstrated success in housing development work using resources such as state and federal affordable housing loan/grant products, conventional financing and/or Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs).
  • Extensive experience in creating proformas for affordable housing projects and evaluating overall project feasibility.
  • Experience in, or willingness to learn, acquisition/rehabilitation of USDA RD515 properties.
  • Minimum of five years’ community development experience working in partnership with rural communities, communities of color/diverse communities, including Native Nations and/or persons that are new to the United States.

Requirements:

  • Provide technical assistance to nonprofits, public entities and Native Nations to create multifamily affordable housing and acquire, rehabilitate/preserve rental housing projects.
  • Lead capacity-building work plans for rural communities and Native Nations; facilitate Housing and Native Institute teams.
  • Coordinate the work of other staff and contractors in partnership with community-based teams.
  • Develop and evaluate project feasibility and financing strategies using LIHTCs and state/federal loan/grant programs to advance affordable housing development.

Job Purpose

Advance community and affordable housing opportunities by providing technical assistance to nonprofits, public entities and Native Nations to create multifamily affordable housing and acquire, rehabilitate/ preserve rental housing projects (70% of the position). Advance community and affordable housing development for rural communities and Native Nations by leading capacity building work plans, facilitating Housing and Native Institute teams, and coordinating the work of other staff and contractors in partnership with community-based teams (30% of the position). 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Proven experience and demonstrated success in housing development work using resources such as state and federal affordable housing loan/grant products, conventional financing and/or Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTCs). 
  • Extensive experience in creating proformas for affordable housing projects and evaluating overall project feasibility
  • Experience in, or willingness to learn, acquisition/rehabilitation of USDA RD515 properties 
  • Minimum of five years’ community development experience working in partnership with rural communities, communities of color/diverse communities, including Native Nations and/or persons that are new to the United States. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in community development or planning, public administration or other related social science field. Career experience focused on Native or rural community development a plus. 
  • National Development Council Housing Development Finance course work a plus.
