Requirements:

  • Support grant administration and compliance in partnership with Research Administration Services across pre-award and post-award phases, including time and effort calculations and reporting.
  • Prepare financial reports and maintain budgets, actuals, and projections; assist with audits and develop ad hoc reports as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyzes past and current data and prepares expense projections and operational forecasts.
  • Assists with audits.
  • Designs and generates routine ad hoc reports and graphs.
  • May maintain grants and assist with budgets.
  • Coordinates computer operations.
  • Conceptualizes projects and follows through.
  • May provide direction to less experienced staff concerning accounting issues.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field and one year of professional accounting experience OR equivalent combination of experience, education and training.

ADDITIONAL JOB DETAILS:

The Center for Contemplative Science and Compassion-Based Ethics (CCSCBE) at Emory University seeks an experienced, highly organized, collaborative, and service-oriented Senior Accountant to support the efficient and successful execution of its global educational programs and research collaborations. CCSCBE is a dynamic, multi-faceted unit within Emory College that offers traditional academic coursework alongside a rapidly expanding research portfolio.

 

The Center also houses three well- established international educational programs serving adult learners as well as pre-K through secondary education contexts and collaborates across the university and with institutions of higher education worldwide.

 

The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in financial management, compliance, and operational support across the Center’s academic and research activities.

 

Financial Operations and Accounting

  • Manage general ledger activities, accounts payable, accounts receivable
  • Execute payments for vendors, individuals, honoraria, and expense reimbursements.
  • Support vendor bidding and contracts through the procurement process, ensuring compliance with Emory policies (e.g., sole source justification, international purchasing and contracting).
  • Oversee requisitions and the creation of purchase orders.
  • Track scheduled grant and gift payments and communicate payment status to relevant stakeholders.
  • Proactively maintain documentation and employ best practices to identify and mitigate potential compliance or liability risks.
  • Work with Emory Merchant Services and Arrow to maintain PCI compliance; work with internal team to pull reports from Clover POS and reconcile credit card transactions.
  • Claim wire transfers reimbursing Emory for expenses

Grants and Sponsored Programs

  • Support grant administration and compliance in partnership with Emory’s Research Administration Services (RAS) across pre-award and post-award phases including calculations and reporting for time and effort.

Budgeting and Financial Reporting

  • Prepare financial reports for internal leadership and external stakeholders as required.
  • Develop and maintain budget updates, actualizations, and projections
