GTM Engineer

Job description

Real opportunities. Real impact. Your career, redefined.

(NOTE: A human reviews every application at Oceans, so please apply for only one position and only once a year—if you're a better fit for another role, we’ll route your application accordingly and if we’re not quite ready for you, we’ll reach back out later).

At Oceans, we believe that talent knows no boundaries. That’s why we connect the best and brightest professionals with career-defining opportunities that challenge, inspire, and accelerate their career growth. Our community, whom we call Divers, don’t just work—they dive deep, solve complex challenges, and make a real impact with global industry leaders. And in doing so, they don’t just support bold ideas—they expand their skills, broaden their expertise, and grow their careers.

As a Go-to-Market (GTM) Engineer, you will be responsible for building the systems and infrastructure that power scalable outbound growth. You will combine technical problem-solving, market research, and automation to identify high-fit prospects, generate actionable signals, and enable highly personalized outreach at scale.

This role is ideal for someone who thinks in systems, builds quickly, and thrives in ambiguity—someone who doesn’t just propose ideas, but translates them into working GTM engines that drive real pipeline.

Accountability

Your success as a GTM Engineer will be defined by your ability to design and implement scalable, signal-driven outbound systems that generate qualified opportunities and improve targeting precision.

Here’s how you’ll make an impact:

ICP Definition & Market Discovery

  • Define and continuously refine ideal customer profiles across industries, ecosystems, and business models.
  • Identify key pain points, buying triggers, and high-conversion use cases.
  • Develop account scoring models using firmographic, technographic, behavioral, and intent-based signals.
  • Test and iterate targeting hypotheses based on real-world feedback.

Data Infrastructure & Signal Generation

  • Build workflows to transform raw market data into prioritized target account lists.
  • Source and structure data from web signals, technology stacks, and enrichment tools.
  • Identify patterns across platforms, tools, and behaviors that indicate strong fit or intent.
  • Design prioritization frameworks to guide outbound focus and resource allocation.

Outbound System Design

  • Design and execute outbound strategies across email, LinkedIn, and other relevant channels.
  • Build personalization systems based on meaningful business signals, not generic templates.
  • Translate data insights into compelling messaging angles tied to real customer pain points.
  • Develop and iterate on sequencing, messaging logic, and testing frameworks.

Automation & GTM Tooling

  • Build and maintain automated workflows across data sources, CRMs, and outreach tools.
  • Integrate APIs, enrichment platforms, and internal systems into a unified GTM architecture.
  • Own the full lifecycle from prospect identification to qualified opportunity through automation.
  • Continuously improve efficiency, speed, and scalability of GTM processes.

Experimentation & Iteration

  • Launch experiments quickly and refine based on performance data.
  • Balance speed with usability, ensuring outputs can be adopted by the broader team.
  • Operate independently with minimal direction in a fast-paced environment.
  • Document systems and workflows clearly for scalability and continuity.

Colleagues

You will work closely with growth, sales, and leadership teams, contributing directly to pipeline generation and go-to-market expansion. At Oceans, you’ll also receive guidance and support from your Operations Manager, who will help you succeed in the role and ensure that you’re continuously growing and developing in your career.

Skills & Qualifications

At Oceans, we believe in T-shaped individuals—those who bring deep expertise in one area paired with broad curiosity across the business. As a GTM Engineer, your vertical focus will be on building automation-driven outbound systems, while your horizontal focus will include market insight, customer behavior, and growth strategy.

To excel in this role, you should have:

  • Experience: 2–6 years of experience in growth, marketing, RevOps, automation, or technical roles, with demonstrated experience building systems or workflows that generate pipeline or improve targeting. Non-traditional backgrounds are welcome if supported by proof of output.
  • Systems & Problem-Solving: Strong ability to break down ambiguous problems, identify patterns, and translate them into structured, scalable systems.
  • Automation & Technical Fluency: Hands-on experience with automation tools, APIs, data workflows, or scripting, with the ability to connect tools into functional systems.
  • GTM & Outbound Understanding: Clear understanding of outbound fundamentals, including targeting, messaging, sequencing, and conversion dynamics.
  • Data & Research Skills: Ability to gather, structure, and interpret data from multiple sources to drive decision-making and prioritization.
  • Execution Mindset: Bias toward action with the ability to build, test, and iterate quickly in fast-moving environments.
  • Communication: Strong written communication skills, particularly in translating insights into effective outbound messaging

Diversity of experience is core to Oceans. You are expected to work inclusively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds, ensuring that both personal and collective dignity are supported.

During the interview process, you’ll have the opportunity to showcase your skills in the following areas:

  • Systems Thinking & Build Capability: How you design and implement scalable GTM systems from scratch.
  • Market Discovery & ICP Definition: How you identify high-value segments and translate insights into targeting logic.
  • Automation & Tooling: How you connect tools, data, and workflows into a cohesive system.
  • Outbound Strategy & Messaging: How you turn signals into personalized, high-converting outreach.
  • Experimentation & Iteration: How you test, learn, and refine systems based on performance data.
  • Execution & Ownership: How you operate independently and deliver tangible output in ambiguous environments.

Role Specifications

This is a remote role, where you will be expected to work a split shift with some overlap with our client’s time zone. You will, however, be expected to be present for in-person training programs during your first 90 days with us. During the offer process, we’ll share more information about our benefits and compensation philosophy, considering both market trends and individual factors.
