IP Architect

Job description

IP Architect

Job Summary:

Speedcast is the world’s trusted partner for critical remote connectivity, enabling operations across the most demanding environments on Earth.

The IP Architect reports to the Director of IP Architecture and serves as the engineering design authority for Speedcast’s IP-based network platforms.

This role operates across the IP Architecture team and cross-functional engineering groups to define and maintain comprehensive technical standards, reference architectures, and governance frameworks. The IP Architect shapes the technical roadmap and ensures platform evolution aligns with product strategy, operational scalability, and commercial objectives.

The IP Architect designs secure, highly available, and resilient systems that enable the NOC and Network Engineering teams to operate independently without routine architectural escalation.

This position sits at the center of Speedcast’s technical direction, where network architecture intersects with product strategy, operational governance, and commercial delivery.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

Reports directly to the Director, IP Architecture (or designated delegate).

Assists in developing and implementing network architecture strategies and solutions in alignment with business objectives and the technical roadmap.

Network Design & Standards Authority

Own all network design standards, reference architectures, and build guidelines across IP-based platforms — including but not limited to the routing domain (BGP / OSPF / IS-IS), transport plane (MPLS / EVPN / SR), overlay plane (SD-WAN / SASE tunnels) and IP service edge (Internet, Direct Connect, LEO breakout)

Define resiliency requirements at every layer and validate that redundancy is designed in from the outset — not added as an afterthought — with operational independence for the NOC and Network Engineering as a primary design objective.

Maintain the standards documentation archive as living, versioned artefacts — ensuring build guidelines, reference architectures, and platform standards are current, accessible, and enforced.

Set the long-term vision for network scale, platform capabilities, and technology evolution — ensuring alignment with Speedcast’s product strategy and commercial direction.

IP Engineering Governance

Serve as the primary architectural authority for IP engineering relationships and contracts related to IP-based platforms — defining and approving technical acceptance criteria and governing design compliance and standards adherence.

Define the technical scope, reference architecture alignment, and deliverable standards for internal and third-party IP engineering engagements — including design artefacts, implementation patterns, and documentation outputs.

Leverage internal and external IP engineering capacity for design support and implementation execution where required, while retaining accountability for architectural integrity and platform coherence.

Engage directly with platform and technology partners on architectural matters, structural escalations, and technology roadmap alignment.

Product & Pre-Sales Technical Authority

Work closely with the Product team to define and maintain the technical standards by which IP-based networking solutions are designed and deployed to customers — ensuring customer-facing designs are grounded in approved architecture and scalable across the platform estate.

Provide technical design authority to Sales and Systems Engineering on new and complex customer solutions — reviewing proposed designs, validating technical feasibility, and ensuring pre-sales commitments align with what the platform can deliver.

Serve as the engineering authority behind pre-sales design and solution validation — ensuring that what is sold and committed is grounded in architecture that is deliverable, scalable, and consistent with Speedcast’s platform strategy.

Engage senior leadership and cross-functional stakeholders on technical strategy, platform direction, and investment decisions — translating complex architectural considerations into clear business framing.

Cross-Functional & Operational Leadership

Ensure architectural decisions delivering platform stability are made with operational independence as a primary objective — enabling the NOC, Network Engineering, and IP Engineering team(s) to manage day-to-day activities without routine architectural escalation.

Collaborate with Global Infrastructure, Systems Engineering, and NOC leadership to review and refine operational frameworks and escalation models as platforms evolve.

Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering standards and technical governance practices across the IP Architecture team’s areas of responsibility.

Stay current with emerging network technologies, industry trends, and vendor roadmaps — incorporating relevant developments into Speedcast’s architectural direction and platform strategy.

Maintain awareness of Speedcast’s competitive positioning and customer feedback, feeding architectural and product insights back to the broader business to shape platform evolution.
