Our client, an AI-focused startup based in Toronto, Canada, are seeking a Senior Full Stack Engineer to act as the technical lead for a key product initiative. In this role, you will architect, build, and own end-to-end systems using FastAPI, Next.js, and Google Cloud Platform. Internally, this position is titled Lead Project Engineer (LPE) and serves as the engineering point of contact and technical owner for a product vertical.
You will collaborate closely with a Product Manager, mentor other engineers, and ensure timely and high-quality delivery. This role is ideal for an engineer who thrives on ownership, clear decision-making, and guiding others within a fast-paced startup environment.
Location: Remote. Need to be able to work in IST/EST hours
Lead technical planning, system architecture (HLD/LLD), and delivery of assigned projects
Own the end-to-end software lifecycle: design, development, deployment, and monitoring
Collaborate with Product Managers on planning, estimation, and delivery
Mentor and review work from Project Engineers within your project scope
Conduct code reviews and maintain high engineering quality standards
Manage GCP-based infrastructure, observability, and CI/CD workflows
Identify and resolve technical challenges, performance bottlenecks, and design risks
Requirements
What You Bring
4-6+ years of experience in full stack development with React/Next.js and Python (FastAPI, Flask, or Django)
Proven experience in leading the design and delivery of scalable software systems
Strong understanding of software architecture and cloud-native development
Proficiency with PostgreSQL, SQLAlchemy, and Pydantic
Hands-on experience with GCP services such as Cloud Run, Pub/Sub, Cloud SQL, IAM
Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker, and infrastructure-as-code (e.g., Terraform)
Excellent communication, technical judgment, and stakeholder collaboration skills
Prior experience in a startup or small-team environment is preferred
