Job Summary
The Transportation Planner’s responsibilities include working with the broader Transportation Planning and Optimization team, Standard Logistics Operations and Solutions teams, their site-based customer teams, and the GAF customer facing teams in executing an evolving distribution strategy. They will be responsible for advancing and overseeing an external carrier base to support shipping sites across all transportation modes. This carrier base will need to meet the cost, service, and volume requirements of the respective site(s) and the end customers that they serve. This includes ongoing and proactive communications, consistent performance reviews, and negotiations with new and established carriers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
With assistance from Transportation Management, execute a comprehensive distribution strategy that fully supports the customer site through demand cycles. It includes the use of various transportation modes accounting for market dynamics and site and customer needs and limitations.
Work collaboratively with internal resources to promote service initiatives and network synergies
Develop and manage a comprehensive external carrier base to support the planned and forecasted shipment volume, balancing costs and customer reliability
Anticipate the timing and scope of demand cycles to offset increased costs and potential service interruptions during volume spikes and maintain relationships through off-cycle periods.
Optimize TMS use to drive low-cost and efficient load tendering.
Manage carrier relationships ensuring that all carriers are compliant with company standards
Complete other duties as assigned
We Require
A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
3+ years of Transportation or Logistics experience
We Prefer
A Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain and Logistics, Business, Finance, Accounting or Engineering.
5+ years of Transportation/Logistics Experience
Proven work history that demonstrates successful execution of new programs or processes through collaboration with internal and/or external partners
