Job description

Overview:

The Campus Buyer is responsible for overseeing several campuses’ site procurements.  The primary responsibilities include supplier negotiation and management, collaboration with internal departments, purchasing of materials, equipment, supplies and services in accordance with prescribed purchasing regulations and procedures.  The Campus Buyer will review and analyze purchase requisitions, investigate and develop sources of supplies, prepare routine RFQ’s/RFP’s. review quotes, interpret purchasing procedures to departments and vendors, act as a liaison between user departments and vendors.  This position requires the use of initiative and independent judgment. Analytical thinking is also required to produce carefully thought-out results. The Campus Buyer will control the work process from beginning to end.


Pay Range: $21.00 - $25.00

Responsibilities:
  • Assists in working with internal and/or external business teams on issues and developments relative to assigned contracts.
  • Ability to spot and correct errors while examining and analyzing departmental purchase requisitions for completeness and accuracy; contacts department or initiator to clarify, correct and complete information.
  • Develop new ideas and identify process improvements for existing processes and procedures.
  • Negotiates and secures bids on requisitions for purchase; prepares RFP/RFQ’s and recommends approval of bids based on price, quantity, quality and delivery date and issues Purchase Orders.
  • Determines method to process requisition based on dollar amount, timeliness required, existing open contracts, and/or competitive bidding.
  • Strategically partners with departments across multiple locations to understand upcoming business needs and identify opportunities for leveraging purchasing to maximize savings and value for the business.
  • Interprets purchasing procedures to other Campus departments.
  • Identifies cost saving opportunities with new and existing vendors.
  • Ownership of discrepancies with invoices; monitors, researches and cleans up invoice issues.
  • Resolves purchasing problems between department and suppliers.
  • Contribute to team by accomplishing other job related tasks as needed; enabling other team members to achieve their job objectives.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Education / Experience

  • BS/BA degree in Supply Chain Management or similar degree preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of one to three years of purchasing, expediting or related experience required.
  • Working knowledge in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Workday preferred.

Skills

  • Supplier relationship building skills.
  • Knowledge of purchasing practices and procedures. Negotiation of vendor pricing and terms.
  • Strong interpersonal/teamwork skills.
  • Ability to prepare, analyze and execute RFQ/RFP’s.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
  • Strong verbal and written communication.
  • Analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with minimal supervision.

Abilities

  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 5 pounds or less 5% of the workday
  • Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workday
  • Must be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, learn and reason for all of the workday
  • Must be able to sit and walk or otherwise move around for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.
  • Will require minimal overnight travel of 15-20%.

 Work Environment

  • Work is performed indoors in a climate-controlled environment.
