Specialist Technical Writer

Hitachi Vantara provides data-driven solutions for businesses. Our Technical Publications group aims to create quick and easy-to-use product documentation, including contextual help and videos. We seek a motivated information developer and content strategist to work with our product team. The ideal candidate will have a product-owner mindset and focus on creating impactful documentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage documentation projects and collaborate with technical writers to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Possess excellent writing skills, organize ideas clearly, and translate technical terms for any reader. Able to manage multiple assignments independently and collaboratively.
  • Learn products through hands-on experience and communicate technical information effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Work with subject matter experts and product managers to determine technical specifications and content for publication. Strong research skills to gather and analyze data.
  • Complete writing tasks according to clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology standards.
  • Lead content work for cross-functional teams on time-sensitive projects.
  • Conduct interviews with users and technical staff for documentation. Collaborate with product management, support, marketing, and other SMEs.
  • Analyze technical feedback from audiences and implement necessary changes in documentation or products.

Skills/Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field.
  • Over 10-15 years of experience in storage documentation, online publishing, online help development, API documentation, installation and user guides, and release notes.
  • Demonstrated technical writing and editing proficiency with exceptional command of the English language, including grammar and usage.
  • Strong technical aptitude and ability to learn products through hands-on experience.
  • Familiarity with API tools, such as Swagger.
  • Practical experience working with Generative AI in areas such as prompt engineering and AI model comprehension.
  • Proficiency in DITA, XML, Microsoft Visio, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Comprehensive understanding of topic-based authoring and reusable information architecture.
  • Experience with agile software development processes and associated tools, such as JIRA and Confluence.
  • Video creation experience is an advantage.
  • Proficiency in spoken Japanese is a plus.
  • Content translation experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrates the ability to step into a leadership capacity—driving initiatives forward, taking ownership of outcomes, and influencing cross‑functional stakeholders without direct authority
