MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio is our newest offering for Ohio families looking for a flexible public school option. The school will serve grades 7-11 in its first year. The school aims to serve 250 students year one, with plans to grow to over 1,000 students by 2030. 🚀

We’re seeking a passionate and resourceful Student Advisor to join our team with a start date of July 6, 2026. This is a fully remote role that emphasizes building positive student relationships, coaching student growth, monitoring progress, and managing records and data. While students complete coursework asynchronously, the advisor role includes frequent live meetings and real-time student support. Advisors may maintain a secondary role in engagement, teaching, or administrative duties depending on their expertise and the school’s needs. As an MOAO Student Advisor, you will be integral in shaping the community for our students, parents, teachers, and staff.

As a growing and evolving school, MOAO values advisors who take initiative, contribute ideas, and actively participate in improving systems and processes as we scale. Advisors are encouraged to share feedback, pilot new tools or workflows, and collaborate with leadership to refine advising practices over time.

A Day in the Role

Serve as the daily point of contact for assigned students, addressing their academic concerns and supporting their growth.
Conduct advising meetings to address academic concerns, support student success, and apply social-emotional learning strategies to promote engagement, persistence, and progress.
Monitor and analyze student data between advising meetings to identify indicators of struggle or disengagement, assess patterns over time, and initiate appropriate support as needed.
Maintain clear, timely documentation of student interactions, advising decisions, and follow-up actions
Partner with Academic Counselors and teachers to support individual student success and continuity of care.
Contribute ideas and feedback to improve advising processes, student supports, and school systems in collaboration with advising leadership.
Engage with students in online social spaces, clubs, and events, fostering a safe and supportive online community
Participate in regular meetings with other MOAO staff and faculty members to discuss student advising and engagement strategies
Act as a liaison between students, families, and school administration to ensure clear and effective communication

Schedule

MOAO staff are expected to have 40 hours of availability each week on a year-round basis.
A minimum of 25 hours of availability per week during school hours, Monday through Friday between 8 am and 4 pm in the Eastern time zone is required to accommodate office hours, staff collaboration, and student communication.
Some of the work, including checking student progress each week, can be completed outside of school hours.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Secondary Education or related field
Minimum 2 years of full-time experience in a student-facing role at the secondary level (grades 7–12)
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with families about expectations and performance and collaborate with colleagues to support student success.
Demonstrated professional judgment and ability to balance empathy with accountability in student-facing decisions.
Willingness to support administrative tasks, lead a club, or assist with coverage during busy periods
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a caseload independently
Ability to work effectively in a fully remote environment
Comfort adapting to evolving systems and implementing new processes
Proficiency with online tools and ability to learn new platforms quickly
Current resident of Ohio or willing to relocate to Ohio

All MOAO staff are considered mandated reporters and are required to respond to student safety and mental health concerns in accordance with the MOAO Crisis Response protocols. This includes participating in required training and, when appropriate, administering the Columbia Suicide Severity Rating Scale (C-SSRS) and following all documentation and escalation procedures.

Ability/willingness to attend some in-person field trips and activities in Ohio
Online advising or teaching experience
Experience supporting neurodiverse learners
Familiarity with homeschool communities
Experience using student data to guide interventions
Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Airtable

Compensation & Benefits

The expected starting pay range is $22.93 - $33.46 per hour. Student Advisors at MiaPrep Online Academy of Ohio work an average of 40 hours per week. When working year-round, this can equate to an annual pay range of $47,694 - $69,596.
- Note: Hours worked over 40 hours will be paid at a rate of 1.5 times the regular hourly rate.
Miaplaza’s compensation philosophy ensures equity and competitiveness while considering the regional differences in labor costs. Specific rates will be provided during the hiring process and are aligned with market data and internal equity.
Compensation is evaluated twice per year, based on performance. MOAO Staff compensation is first and foremost determined by performance and impact.
Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, inclusive of specialty care options like fertility benefits, mental health services, and chiropractic care, FSA, HSA, and more.

PTO is all-purpose time off, and combines traditional vacation and paid sick leave plans into one flexible, inclusive policy. Eligible employees can use PTO for all kinds of absences including: vacation, holidays, illness, injury, family leave, and other personal business. Full-time employees receive 16 hours of floating holiday PTO per quarter and accumulate additional PTO at the rate of 1 hour per every 17 hours worked. Annually, this amounts to approximately 122 hours per year or 15 eight-hour days on average.
