  • Certified in developing Epic training environments with 3 years of experience.

Requirements:

  • Design, build, and maintain the training curriculum for clinical documentation workflows; deliver instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training to providers and clinical staff.
  • Develop training materials including manuals, eLearning modules, quick reference guides, and simulations; ensure content aligns with system updates, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in EHR clinical documentation workflows; translate technical build into end-user training content and support go-live readiness and command center operations.
  • Identify documentation improvement opportunities through feedback, metrics, and workflow analysis; partner with Clinical Informatics to support optimization and standardization; update training materials based on system enhancements; promote best practices for accurate, efficient, and compliant documentation.

Clinical Documentation Principal Trainer (Epic)

Location: Remote, Durham, NC

Duration: 12 months

Job Summary:

Responsible for developing and delivering EHR training, supporting providers, and optimizing documentation workflows. Collaborate with informatics and IT to enhance efficiency, compliance, and patient care outcomes.

  • Training Development & Delivery (40%):
    • Design, build, and maintain training curriculum for clinical documentation workflows.
    • Deliver instructor-led, virtual, and at-the-elbow training to providers and clinical staff.
    • Develop training materials including manuals, eLearning modules, quick reference guides, and simulations.
    • Ensure training content aligns with system updates, regulatory requirements, and organizational standards.
  • EHR & Workflow Expertise (25%):
    • Serve as a subject matter expert in clinical documentation workflows within the EHR.
    • Collaborate with application analysts and informatics teams to understand system design and changes.
    • Translate technical build into end-user training content.
    • Support go-live readiness activities and command center operations.
  • Optimization & Continuous Improvement (20%):
    • Identify documentation improvement opportunities through feedback, metrics, and workflow analysis.
    • Partner with Clinical Informatics to support optimization initiatives and standardization efforts.
    • Update training materials and strategies based on system enhancements and user needs.
    • Promote best practices for accurate, efficient, and compliant documentation.
  • Governance & Collaboration (10%):
    • Participate in governance structures and workgroups related to clinical documentation.
    • Provide input on system design decisions impacting documentation workflows.
    • Ensure alignment with enterprise documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Support & Evaluation (5%):
    • Evaluate training effectiveness through surveys, proficiency assessments, and performance metrics.
    • Provide ongoing support and coaching to end users.
    • Maintain training environment and related documentation.

Must Have Skills:

  • Epic-certified as Principal Trainer in Clinical Documentation with 5 years of experience.
  • Ability to work independently, ensuring training sessions and materials meet Epic's standards.
  • Experience with clinical documentation improvement (CDI) practices for at least 3 years.
  • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS).
  • Experience supporting large-scale EHR implementations or upgrades.
  • Certified in developing Epic training environments with 3 years of experience.
