Roles & Responsibilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university and Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Minimum 10 years of power system design experience, with DOE federal project experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in preparing structural calculations, familiarity with concrete and steel design codes, and experience with discipline-specific computer analysis codes; proficient in Word and Excel.
  • U.S. citizenship; strong written, presentation, and communication skills; ability to work independently and in teams; familiarity with the International Building Code (IBC) and building code design.

Requirements:

  • Design equipment mounting, foundations, and pipe supports for power plants; perform site walkdowns and ensure cost-effective, code-compliant solutions.
  • Perform static and dynamic analyses, including seismic loads, and analyze changes to existing and new plant systems; design pipe supports and structures (nuclear plant experience desired).
  • Develop specifications for structural components and support engineering design and analysis projects for the power industry; produce calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations.
  • Manage design activities by developing mounting and foundation designs, pipe support calculations, and design modification packages; conduct reviews and interface with staff engineers across offices while ensuring compliance with industry codes and government regulations.

Overview:

Our Federal Services Group is seeking a Principal Civil Structural Engineer to join the team. This dynamic role offers the opportunity to contribute to the design and analysis of critical power plant systems, enhancing both existing and new facilities. You will apply cutting-edge engineering principles to deliver innovative solutions, collaborate across teams, and make a direct impact on the future of the power industry.

 

Our team supports our federal clients to solve a wide range of critical engineering problems. Our work covers both nuclear and non-nuclear facilities as well as facility-related infrastructure. Services range from full-scale design of new or replacement facilities to life cycle management to maximize their useful life and availability to assisting with the decommissioning of facilities that have reached the end of their useful life. Responsibilities:

A day in this role involves designing equipment mounts, foundations, and pipe supports while applying your technical expertise to solve real-world challenges. You'll analyze designs, perform site walkdowns, and ensure cost-effective, code-compliant solutions that drive the future of power plant engineering.

 

  • Design & Analysis Excellence: Design and analysis of changes to existing power plants and new plant systems. Perform static equivalent and dynamic analysis of structures for seismic loads. Design of pipe supports, structures, etc. (nuclear power plant experience desired)
  • Engineering & Technical Expertise: Perform work requiring application of basic technical principles, theories, standards, and concepts (including reading and understanding design drawings and technical specifications as necessary to support preparation of project deliverables, such as calculations, specifications, and engineering evaluations). Develop specifications of structural components. Support engineering design and analysis projects for the power industry
  • Problem Solving & Innovation: Perform site walkdowns to identify design solutions and develop cost-effective problem resolutions. Interface with staff engineers and engineers across offices
  • Project & Design Management: Develop equipment mounting, foundation design, and pipe support calculations and designs. Perform reviews, assemble and prepare design modification packages. Gain familiarity with and application of industry codes and government regulations #LI-SH7 
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university
  • Professional Engineering License
  • Minimum 10 years’ with power system design experience 
  • Experience working on DOE federal projects
  • Demonstrated proficiency in preparation of structural calculations is desired
  • Knowledge of discipline specific computer analysis codes as well as standard office production software
  • Proficient in Word and Excel
  • Familiar with the International Building code and building code design
  • Good writing, presentation, and communication skills
  • Ability to be an individual contributor and work effectively in teams
  • Familiar with concrete and steel design codes and with working stress and ultimate strength design approaches
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
Pay Range: USD $140,000.00 - USD $180,000.00 /Yr. Additional Information:

When salary range is listed it reflects typical compensation for this role based on level and location. Actual pay depends on experience, skills, and education.
