We Are Sparta
Sparta is the next-generation commodity trading platform.
We give trading desks the clarity, control, and collaboration they need to move faster and trade smarter.
In February 2025, we secured $42 million in Series B funding. Now we’re scaling up across the business, and it’s an exciting time to join.
Our people are the driving force behind everything we do. At Sparta, you’ll be trusted to take ownership, backed by a team who wants you to succeed. You’ll be challenged, supported, and given room to grow. Because building something this ambitious takes everyone at their best.
At Sparta, your work has reach. From improving our platform, to powering smarter decisions for our customers, to changing how commodity trading is done around the world.
And because we’re growing fast, you won’t just build your career. You’ll accelerate it, with a level of ownership and impact you simply don’t get at bigger, more bureaucratic companies.
We’re looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our finance team on a hybrid basis (2–3 days in the Geneva office). You’ll own core accounting processes and be encouraged to find smarter, more efficient ways to work — whether that’s through automation, better tooling, or emerging AI capabilities. If you have a passion for accounting and a curiosity for technology, we’d love to hear from you.
The Role
Participate in monthly financial close for all entities, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and overseeing proper reporting from external accounting providers for entities abroad.
Own and continuously improve the Procure-to-Pay (P2P) process, including approval workflows, GL coding, system posting, payment run preparation and execution — leveraging automation for invoice processing, matching, and workflow approvals to drive efficiency and compliance.
Maintain Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable sub-ledgers, ensuring accurate posting, monitoring, and reconciliation — using system integrations and automated alerts to reduce manual effort where possible.
Perform and review general ledger activities, including journal entries, recurring postings, balance sheet reconciliations, fixed assets accounting, and detailed cost centre analysis.
Monitor and support treasury and cash management, including tracking cash balances, liquidity needs, and funding across parent entity and subsidiary bank accounts.
Own employee expense management processes end-to-end, including review and validation of expense claims, proactive follow-up with employees on missing receipts, and reconciliation of corporate card transactions — using AI-powered expense platforms for automated receipt matching, policy compliance checks, and travel expense categorisation.
Act as a key contributor to finance projects and system implementations, including ERP process enhancements and expense management tools rollout.
Champion the adoption of AI and emerging tools within the finance team — identify opportunities to use new technologies for data extraction, reporting, and process documentation.
Serve as a reliable and well-rounded senior accounting partner, capable of operating autonomously, structuring work efficiently, and ensuring consistent execution in a fast-paced environment.
Who You Are
Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or Brevet fédéral de comptabilité.
5–10 years of experience in a senior or hands-on accounting role within a Swiss-based international SME.
Solid financial reporting experience under IFRS, Swiss Code of Obligations, and/or US GAAP.
Fluency in English is required; additional European languages are an advantage.
Proven experience contributing to or supporting finance projects, including system implementations or process improvements.
Strong proficiency with financial ERP systems (e.g. Oracle NetSuite, SAP) and advanced working knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite.
Curious about technology and open to adopting AI tools — you do not need to be an expert, but should be eager to explore how new tools can make work faster and more accurate.
Demonstrated high attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to work independently and autonomously, taking full ownership of tasks from start to finish.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with a proactive mindset and a genuine enjoyment of taking initiative, improving processes, and operating effectively with minimal supervision.
Strong interpersonal and stakeholder management skills — able to build trusted relationships across functions, communicate clearly and diplomatically under pressure, and influence without authority to drive alignment and keep processes moving.

Our values:
Ask for forgiveness, not permission: We are building a category-defining company, and that requires speed, boldness, and ownership. If you see something that needs doing, do it. Don’t wait. Own it. If it goes wrong, learn fast and fix it. Celebrate initiative. Mistakes are feedback, not failure.
Discomfort is where growth happens: Growth doesn’t come from playing it safe. It comes from stretching beyond what you already know. Embrace change, seek new challenges, push your boundaries. We reward those who are brave enough to try, fail, and learn.
Stay hungry, ditch the ego: Spartans are ambitious - but for the mission, not for the politics. Leave your ego at the door. Titles don’t matter. Results do. Focus on what drives real outcomes, not what makes you look good. Ambition fuels progress, and humility keeps us grounded.
Fall in love with the problem: We exist to solve real customer problems - not to push our ideas. Always start with their needs, not our assumptions. Everything else is noise.
Challenge openly, support fully: We grow through truth, not silence. Feedback is a gift - but only when it’s shared with courage and care. Radical candour builds trust. We embrace diverse debate, but once a decision is made, we align and wholeheartedly commit.
What we offer:
Flexible working model
Attractive company stock option plan
Dynamic, international work environment with a strong focus on innovation
