About this Role:
The Senior Mechanical Estimator leads the development of conceptual and feasibility cost model estimates utilizing historic benchmarking information and industry experience in order to develop complete early-stage cost estimate forecasting. The Senior Mechanical Estimator corresponds professionally with architects, engineers, and owners for clear understanding of project scope during preparation of estimate. The position develops relationships with members of A/E firms and project team members. This a remote position however, travel to client, and project locations is part of the work environment. The position works under the direct supervision of the National Director of Cost Management Operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop Mechanical estimates at all levels – Conceptual through Working Drawing – and administer Mechanical estimating services on multi-million-dollar construction projects
- Ensure all Consertus/CCS processes are followed during the course of estimation on each project. Document and prepare project information in an orderly and concise manner for each and every project under your supervision.
- Review & ensure understanding of client's project specific requirements - e.g., format, divisions, meetings, delivery schedule, etc., as well as client’s overall project schedule and otherwise ensure thorough understanding of project plans, drawings and specifications
- Obtain accurate and up-to-date pricing information from databases, contractors, suppliers, etc. to utilize in estimates
- Communicate to vendors clearly the needs required for each project regarding informational and pricing needs. Input data into database.
- Review historic benchmark cost information and highlight variances
- Handle change order reviews and value engineering issues as they arise on various projects and determine cost implications on labor, material, and equipment for any given discipline within an estimate.
- Review and challenge the peer A/S/C, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing portions, as required.
- Review and finalize estimate unit cost pricing to reflect current market conditions and specific project logistics
- Attend project briefing meeting to review documents, review the estimate to ensure full understanding on the part of the Client on what was incorporated, facilitate, or participate in meetings with Owner, Architects and Contractors, as required
- Meet Client deadlines and expectations. Review client comments and make necessary changes within a specific timeframe. Make Client aware of additional services to projects when expectations appear to go beyond the original scope of services.
- Continually communicate regarding workload and capacity availability with the Director of Technical Services – Production
- Responsible for the profitability of all personally assigned projects
- Weekly review of work forecast (Project Log) to ensure capacity and provide monthly staffing (or other) issues report to DTS & National Director via written communication.
- Promote positive client relationships to increase repeat business
Qualifications/Requirements:
- B.S. Mechanical Engineering or related construction discipline
- 7+ years’ experience in pre-construction cost estimating experience.
- History of facilitation and management of projects valued from $5 – 100+ Million.
- Estimating in all levels of design development including conceptual level
- Knowledge of all Building Systems.
- Knowledge of the entire construction process from pre-planning, pre-construction through construction, punch list, closeout and occupancy
- Possess technical knowledge of construction methods, building systems, and terminology
- Ability to read & interpret blueprints and produce concise Mechanical quantity take-offs utilizing company procedures and standards for any given Project. Review documents for changes in design from one stage of design to another and understand the differences in levels of estimating required.
- Basic ability to understand contract language and implement contract requirements
Compensation Range
- Compensation range $130,000 - $150,000 full-time remote position.
