Responsibilities for this Position:

ROLE AND POSITION OBJECTIVES:

The Mechanical Parts Commodity Engineer is responsible for managing the technical and sourcing aspects of mechanical components across the supply chain. This includes collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement teams to ensure the quality, cost-effectiveness, and reliability of mechanical parts such as fasteners, machined components, castings, and molded parts. The role involves evaluating suppliers, ensuring compliance with industry standards, and driving continuous improvement initiatives to align with business objectives.

Roles and Responsibilities:

 

Supplier Engagement and Management:

  • Provide technical expertise to evaluate, qualify, and manage suppliers for mechanical parts based on technical capability, quality, cost, and delivery performance
  • Conduct supplier audits and assessments to ensure compliance with company and industry standards
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to drive innovation and improve supply chain performance

Technical Oversight:

  • Provide expertise on mechanical part specifications, material selection, and manufacturing processes (e.g., machining, casting, molding, and additive manufacturing)
  • Review and validate mechanical part designs for manufacturability, ensuring alignment with engineering requirements and supplier capabilities
  • Support design engineering in selecting appropriate materials and finishes to meet performance, cost, and environmental requirements

Collaboration with Supply Chain Management and Procurement:

  • Partner with Procurement specialists (buyers) to align technical specifications with sourcing strategies and supplier selection
  • Provide technical input for supplier negotiations and cost-reduction initiatives
  • Work with Supply Chain Management to identify and mitigate risks, including supplier capacity constraints and material shortages

Problem Solving and Quality Assurance:

  • Investigate and resolve issues related to mechanical parts, including dimensional non-conformance, material defects, or manufacturing process failures
  • Monitor supplier quality performance and lead corrective actions to address recurring problems
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards, such as ASME, ASTM, and ISO

Cost and Risk Management:

  • Identify cost-reduction opportunities through design optimization, material substitutions, or process improvements
  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies to ensure supply chain continuity, including dual sourcing and supplier diversification

Process Improvement and Innovation:

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives for mechanical part manufacturing processes to improve quality, reduce costs, and shorten lead times
  • Stay updated on advancements in mechanical design, materials, and manufacturing technologies to recommend innovations to engineering and procurement teams
  • Identifies opportunities to apply AI for continuous improvement and innovation

Documentation and Reporting:

  • Maintain supplier qualification records, technical specifications, and process documentation
  • Provide regular reports to leadership on supplier performance, cost-saving opportunities, and risk mitigation efforts

This position is remote/telework, fully on-site, OR hybrid/flex as desired
While on-site, you will be a part of the Scottsdale, Arizona facility

Salary Note: This estimate represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors (geographic location, etc.). Actual pay may vary. This job posting will remain open until the position is filled. Combined Salary Range: USD $142,696.00 - USD $158,303.00 /Yr. Company Overview:
