The University of Miami's School of Education and Human Development has an exciting opportunity for a full time Program Manager to work in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
The University of Miami, Teaching and Learning Department is seeking an energetic full time Program Manager, in the Tuscaloosa, AL area, to work on an exciting 1-2 year middle school reading research project. This is only a 1-2 year position. The Program Manager performs a variety of duties involved in the project including, but not limited to management and coaching of middle school reading teachers, reading program evaluation, and collection, compilation, and documentation of research data related to the assigned research studies. The incumbent also assists with the implementation of daily study activities and provides support to these activities.
This position, located in Alabama, will work closely with the PI and project manager at the University of Miami. This position provides a unique experience to acquire knowledge on new way to teach reading as well as hands-on involvement with classroom teachers and students on how to better teach middle school students with and at-risk for reading disabilities. The appointees, while working under the direct supervision of the principal investigator and project coordinator, will divide their time between instructing, supporting, and coaching teachers implementing the Adolescent Multi-Component-Intensive Training-Reading program (AMP-IT-UP) program along with other assigned research responsibilities at the University of Miami.
The person applying for this position must have experience; 1) teaching in inclusion classrooms, 2) teaching intensive reading, 3) working with student with or at-risk for reading disabilities, and 4) implementing and collecting classroom level assessment data.
Furthermore, the applicant needs to be enthusiastic about supporting and coaching middle school teachers who teach intensive reading, participating in a team environment, and enjoy interacting on numerous levels with middle school teachers and students. The candidate for the position must be results oriented and believe that all students can learn to read regardless of their background.
The position starts June/July 2026 and goes through the June 2027 or possibly 2027-28 academic year.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Plans, implements, evaluates, and monitors organization-wide development programs.
Implements project plans related to the delivery of new and on-going professional development programs.
Provides training, instruction, coaching, and support to middle school teachers implementing the AMP-IT-UP reading program.
Researches, collects, and maintains classroom databases, reports on the status of research activities, and submits monthly activity logs for protocol.
Serves as a point of contact for project teachers and ensures teachers implementation of AMP-IT-UP to fidelity by conducting fidelity and observation checks.
Reviews study progress, identifies areas of opportunity, and recommends solutions.
Provides training and monitoring of semi-yearly assessors and assessment implementation for students in the study
Works closely with schools and administration to ensure project and assessment implementation
Prepares and updates study research procedures manuals.
Maintains research files and responds to any and all research study communications.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
At minimum, a Bachelor’s degree in Education and/or Special Education.
Currently have or previously have had:
-Certification(s) in Education and/or Special Education,
-Either:
a. Florida State, or any states’ Endorsement in Reading
b. Degree (Bachelor’s, Master’s, Ed.S., Ed.D., Ph.D.) or endorsement in Reading
Minimum 4 years or relevant experience:
-Teaching in inclusion classrooms,
-Teaching intensive reading programs,
- Coaching teachers,
-Working with student with or at-risk for reading disabilities, and
-Implementing and collecting classroom level assessment data.
Knowledge of middle school culture.
Knowledge of business and management principles.
Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.
Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan.
Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others.
Ability to lead, motivate, develop, and train others.
Any relevant education, certifications and/or work experience may be considered.
