  • Minimum three years of experience leading clinicians in a leadership role with demonstrated impact on clinician talent, culture and performance, and effective partnerships with operations and supporting teams

Requirements:

  • Lead IPA network management: develop relationships with IPA physician groups, align with value-based care goals, provide coaching and performance feedback, conduct routine IPA site visits, and coordinate with contracting and network teams; represent the organization in IPA forums
  • Clinical performance oversight: monitor performance dashboards (Stars, HEDIS, MRA, NPS, utilization, cost-of-care), identify gaps, implement improvement plans, conduct chart reviews, and collaborate with care coordination, pharmacy, population health, and analytics; manage high-risk patient care and transitions
  • Operational/financial performance: partner with IPA operations, provider relations, and finance to monitor financial performance and value-based contract outcomes; support budgeting/forecasting and incentive alignment; guide groups on shared savings and capitation; troubleshoot barriers
  • Cross-functional collaboration: work in dyad with Market leadership and Shared Services to align strategy, coordinate enterprise-wide clinical quality initiatives, and maintain unified communication across teams

As the associate medical director (AMD) reporting to the chief medical officer, you will be an instrumental member of our primary care team. You will combine clinical practice with leadership and clinical management to ensure patient care and understanding of value-based care (VBC) principles. This market/center-specific role requires flexibility to adapt responsibilities and demands a unique blend of clinical management, financial, and strategic partnership to optimize patient care and business outcomes. {This is a hybrid position of working from home, in clinical practice, and making visits to locations within the affiliated practices. You will need to reside in South Florida in Broward, Dade, or Palm Beach County or the Treasure Coast.}

The IPA medical director is a clinical and operational leader responsible for driving performance across Independent Practice Association (IPA) partners. You will focus on advancing value-based care, improving clinical quality, strengthening provider engagement, and optimizing financial and operational outcomes across contracted IPA networks

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & IPA Network Management:

  • Develop strong relationships with IPA physician groups, ensuring alignment with organizational strategy and value-based care goals.
  • Lead clinical strategy for IPA performance, focusing on quality, utilization, patient experience, and risk adjustment.
  • Provide coaching, education, and performance feedback to IPA clinicians and administrators.
  • Conduct routine IPA site visits, host provider meetings, and facilitate communication across IPA stakeholders.
  • Partner with contracting and network teams to support provider recruitment, engagement, and performance optimization.
  • Represent the organization across IPA forums, community events, and strategic initiatives.

Clinical Performance Oversight:

  • Monitor IPA performance dashboards, Stars, HEDIS, MRA, NPS, utilization metrics, and cost-of-care indicators.
  • Identify gaps and build improvement plans for care management, coding accuracy, patient access, and population health initiatives.
  • Conduct chart reviews and medical record assessments to validate coding, quality, and clinical documentation standards.
  • Collaborate with care coordination, pharmacy, population health, and analytics teams to drive outcomes.
  • Ensure IPA clinicians appropriately manage high-risk patients and partner with care teams for transitions of care and chronic disease management.

Operational & Financial Performance:

  • Partner with IPA operations, provider relations, and finance teams to monitor financial performance and value-based contract outcomes.
  • Support annual budgeting, forecasting, and incentive alignment for IPA partners.
  • Guide IPA groups in understanding clinical and financial drivers impacting shared savings, capitation performance, and incentive payouts.
  • Troubleshoot operational or workflow barriers impacting performance.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work in dyad partnership with Market leadership and Shared Services teams to align strategy, goals, and execution.
  • Coordinate enterprise-wide initiatives for clinical quality improvement, documentation, coding, and care delivery.
  • Maintain consistent communication channels across teams to ensure unified messaging and coordinated IPA support.

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduate of an accredited medical school (MD/DO) with a current medical license, maintaining licensure requirements of the state of jurisdiction

  • Minimum five years of experience in outpatient practice, with clinical experience in primary care, senior health, and value-based care (VBC)
  • Minimum three years of experience leading clinicians in a leadership role with demonstrated impact on clinician talent, culture, and performance, and effective partnership with operations and supporting teams
  • Skilled in use of clinical technology platforms and resources, such as EMR systems (e.g. athenahealth, Epic, eClinicalWorks), voice documentation tools (e.g. Dragon, Abridge) and clinical evidence & pathway resources (e.g. UpToDate)
  • This role is considered patient facing and is part of CenterWell's Tuberculosis (TB) screening program. If selected for this role, you will be required to be screened for TB.
  • Candidates selected for this job will require adherence to Humana's flu vaccine policy.

Pay Range

The compensation range below reflects a good faith estimate of starting base pay for full time (40 hours per week) employment at the time of posting. The pay range may be higher or lower based on geographic location and individual pay will vary based on demonstrated job related skills, knowledge, experience, education, certifications, etc.


 

$246,100 - $344,200 per year


 

This job is eligible for a bonus incentive plan. This incentive opportunity is based upon company and/or individual performance.
