Solution Architect - Research and Development

Roles & Responsibilities

  • 7+ years in solution or enterprise architecture within RD, scientific IT, or product development environments, preferably in the chemical industry.
  • Experience with LIMS, ELN, formulation systems, colour management tools, or laboratory automation.
  • Experience with multi-system landscapes and integration into ERP, PLM, and Data Lake environments.
  • Familiarity with Azure Data Lake and modern integration technologies (APIs, ETL/ELT, event-driven) and knowledge of scientific data standards and laboratory workflows.

Requirements:

  • Define the target architecture for the RD digital ecosystem (LIMS, ELN, PLM/PDM, Chemmate/Regulatory, colour management, and local lab apps) and ensure alignment with enterprise standards, data governance, and security.
  • Take technical ownership of core RD digital platforms post go-live; oversee lifecycle management, upgrades, performance, and operations; ensure integrations with enterprise platforms remain stable and compliant.
  • Serve as lead architect on RD digitalization initiatives; review and guide solution designs and data models; provide architectural direction to vendors, implementation partners, and internal teams.
  • Define RD data models, metadata structures, and lineage; ensure scientific data is FAIR and support integration of RD data into downstream business processes.

 Digital Product Line Management team, which is part of the global Digital department, focuses on defining and delivering the solution / enterprise architecture for R&D.

 We are looking for Solution Architect, who would be responsible for designing architectural solutions, including infrastructure, security, integration, and test of the solutions according to existing strategies, principles and best practices to meet the organization’s current and future business needs. This involves understanding existing systems and technology, including comprehending the relationships, dependencies and flows of information.  

Your responsibilities will also include:

Architecture & Strategy

  • Define the target architecture for the R&D digital ecosystem, including LIMS, ELN, PLM/PDM, Chemmate/Regulatory, colour management systems, and local laboratory applications.

  • Ensure all R&D solutions follow enterprise standards for integration, data governance, and security.

  • Translate scientific, formulation, and product development needs into scalable, maintainable digital solutions.

  • Align R&D architecture with enterprise architecture and cybersecurity requirements

Technical Application Ownership

  • Take technical ownership of core R&D digital platforms post go live

  • Oversee lifecycle management, upgrades, performance, and technical operations.

  • Ensure integrations between R&D systems and enterprise platforms remain stable and compliant.

  • Support R&D business owners with continuous improvement

Project Involvement

  • Serve as lead architect on R&D digitalization initiatives.

  • Review and guide solution designs and data models

  • Collaborate with project managers to identify risks, dependencies, and architectural impacts.

  • Provide architectural direction to vendors, implementation partners, and internal teams.

Scientific Data Integration & Governance

  • Define R&D data models, metadata structures, and lineage across LIMS, ELN, formulation systems, and analytical tools.

  • Ensure scientific data is FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable)

  • Support integration of R&D data into downstream business processes (quality, manufacturing, regulatory, sustainability).

R&D Digital Ecosystem Integration

  • Ensure seamless interoperability between R&D platforms

  • Support global harmonization of R&D digital processes and tools.

  • Ensure R&D digital capabilities scale to support innovation, product development, and cross functional collaboration.

  • Partner with data engineering teams to ensure high‑quality, trusted data.

Required education, experience and job-related skills:

  • 7+ years in solution or enterprise architecture within R&D, scientific IT, or product development environments, preferably within Chemical industry

  • Experience with LIMS, ELN, formulation systems, colour management tools, or laboratory automation.

  • Understanding of R&D processes (formulation, testing, product development, analytical workflows).

  • Experience with multi system landscapes and integration into ERP, PLM, and Data Lake environments.

  • Familiarity with Azure Data Lake, modern integration technologies (APIs, ETL/ELT, event driven).

  • Knowledge of scientific data standards and laboratory workflows.

  • Experience with application lifecycle management and technical ownership
