2026 Datacom New Zealand - Trainee Field Engineer

Datacom is looking for a Trainee Field Engineer to join our team and support clients across New Plymouth. This is a hands‑on, customer‑facing role where you’ll travel to client sites to assist with installations, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and service repairs for a range of complex equipment and systems.

(Please note: this role requires your own vehicle.)

No prior experience is required — we provide full training. All we ask is that you’re adaptable, curious, and open to learning.

What you’ll be doing once you’re up to speed

With training and support, you’ll help your team and clients by:

• Reviewing and assessing the operational quality of system equipment

• Instructing customers on correct system operation and maintenance
• Acting as a key liaison between customers and Datacom on technical and administrative matters
• Interpreting customer needs and identifying the right path for problem resolution
• Providing general field support across hardware and software, including PCs and networking / wireless networking

• While experience isn’t required, we’d love to hear from you if you have:
• Study experience or a strong interest in technology, hardware, or IT

• A self‑starter mindset with genuine passion for tech
• Strong communication and customer service skills
• The ability to problem‑solve and think outside the box
• A positive, motivated attitude
• The ability to collaborate and work well in a team

• Full Driver's License
• Own Vehicle
