Engagement Type: Independent Contractor (Hourly / Billable)
Engagement Structure: Project-Based Advisory Support
Estimated Duration: 6–12 months (part-time, variable hours based on project needs)
Location: Remote, with coordination across time zones
Primary Organizational Contact: Chief People Officer
Engagement Overview
We are a global nonprofit operating across 18 countries and currently implementing a new HRIS as part of a broader ERP transformation.
We are seeking an HRIS Implementation Advisor (Contractor) to provide targeted, on-demand advisory support to our internal HR team. This role is intended to complement the work of an external implementation partner and internal business systems leadership by filling gaps in HR process translation, system usability, and implementation readiness.
This is a project-based, independent contractor engagement for an experienced HRIS practitioner who can independently assess needs, provide practical recommendations, and support discrete deliverables as requested.
Scope of Services
The contractor will provide advisory and supplemental support, which may include:
- Reviewing HRIS configurations and workflows and providing recommendations to improve alignment with HR processes and best practices
- Supporting translation of HR business requirements into system-related inputs for the implementation partner
- Identifying gaps, risks, or inconsistencies in HRIS design, data structures, or process flows
- Providing guidance on global HR process considerations, including standardization vs. local adaptation
- Advising on data setup, data integrity considerations, and reporting needs
- Supporting development or refinement of HR-facing documentation and user guidance
- Providing input on user adoption, usability, and change readiness from an HR perspective
- Participating in periodic working sessions with HR, internal systems staff, and/or external consultants, as needed
The contractor will determine the approach and methods used to deliver these services, based on agreed priorities.
Example Deliverables
Deliverables will be defined on an as-needed basis and may include:
- Written recommendations on system configuration or workflow design
- Gap analyses comparing HR requirements to current system setup
- Feedback memos following system demos or configuration reviews
- Draft HR process documentation aligned to system functionality
- Input into data structures, fields, and reporting frameworks
- Advisory input on training materials or HR user guidance
Deliverables are expected to be discrete, time-bound, and advisory in nature, rather than ongoing operational support.
What This Role Is Not
To ensure clarity of scope, this engagement does not include:
- Full ownership of HRIS implementation or project management
- Direct system configuration or technical build responsibility (owned by implementation partner)
- Ongoing system administration or internal HRIS support
- Supervision of staff or management of internal resources
Required Expertise
- Prior experience supporting or leading HRIS implementations, ideally in global or multi-country environments
- Strong understanding of HR processes and how they translate into HRIS design
- Ability to assess system configurations and provide practical, actionable recommendations
- Experience working alongside external implementation vendors
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to communicate effectively with both HR and technical stakeholders
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently and deliver high-quality advisory input
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Unit4 or similar ERP/HRIS platforms
- Experience in nonprofit or mission-driven organizations
- Background working in complex, multi-country environments
Engagement Terms
- This is a contract opportunity for an independent service provider and is not an employment position
- Services will be performed on a billable hourly basis, with work requested and prioritized as needed
- The contractor will determine the method, timing, and means of delivering services, subject to agreed deliverables
- Engagement is expected to be part-time and variable, depending on project phase and organizational needs
- The contractor may provide services to other clients during the term of this engagement
- The contractor is responsible for providing their own tools and work environment, except where access to internal systems is required
Compensation
This is a billable hourly engagement with an anticipated rate range of $125–$175 per hour. The engagement will be managed within a defined project budget, with hours scoped and approved based on project priorities.
