  • 10+ years of experience with electric utilities, energy policy/regulatory frameworks, and grid planning; proven project management and proposal/SOW/technical report writing experience
  • Strong knowledge of energy policy and regulatory requirements; ability to analyze complex energy and grid data; familiarity with DER integration, renewables, smart grids, and energy storage is a plus
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills; strong analytical thinking; software proficiency with GIS, power-flow modeling, and energy-management tools

Requirements:

  • Provide strategic advisory to clients on utility and regulatory strategy, filings, and compliance related to grid modernization, DER integration, and electrification; translate policy into actionable planning and operational guidance; support regulatory filings and testimony as applicable
  • Lead and manage delivery of complex energy and grid projects, including work-plans, schedules, QA/QC, risk management, and technical integration challenges; coordinate resources and stakeholders to meet milestones
  • Manage client relationships and drive business development by identifying opportunities, leading discussions, drafting proposals, and presenting technical solutions; support client needs assessments and engagement activities
  • Lead proposal development and scope of work (SOW) creation; develop high-quality technical proposals with timelines and resource plans; ensure proposals clearly communicate approach, value, and outcomes

We are designing the grid of the future! 

 

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Advisor to join our team and provide critical support across a range of activities, including regulatory advisory, strategic initiative leadership, and technical program execution as well as project management, delivery, execution, client engagement, business development, and the preparation of proposals and technical reports.

 

This role will require a professional with a deep understanding of energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments while leading technical and strategic grid modernization initiatives within the electric utility sector. The ideal candidate will also have experience with grid planning processes, and how they are impacted by distributed energy resources and building and transportation electrification policies, as well as be proficient in working with energy and grid data.

 

As a Technical Advisor, you will collaborate with internal teams, clients, and external stakeholders to lead and execute projects, guide regulatory and technical strategy, and support the development of forward-looking grid modernization initiatives, contributing to the continued growth and success of the organization.

Responsibilities:

How you can make an impact:

1. Strategic Advisor and Leadership

  • Lead and support client engagements focused on utility and regulatory strategy, filings, and compliance related to grid modernization, DER integration, and electrification.
  • Provide subject matter expertise to help clients navigate regulatory complexity, including translating policy and regulatory requirements into actionable planning and operational strategies.
  • Support development of regulatory filings, testimony, and supporting materials, as applicable.
  • Advise on emerging regulatory trends and frameworks, helping shape client strategy and internal service offerings.

 

2. Project Leadership and Technical Execution

  • Lead and support the delivery and execution of complex energy and grid-related projects, ensuring they are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
  • Lead project teams in developing and implementing work plans, project schedules, tracking progress, QA / QC practices, and addressing risks and technical challenges.
  • Serve as a technical lead, guiding teams through complex analytical, planning, and integration challenges.
  • Coordinate resources, schedules, and stakeholders to ensure project milestones are met on time and on budget.
  • Work closely with internal teams and clients to ensure alignment with project goals and deliverables.

 

3. Client Management and Business Development

  • Build and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with clients, serving as a trusted advisor on both technical and regulatory matters
  • Lead client discussions and navigate complex stakeholder environments, aligning technical solutions with regulatory and business objectives.
  • Contribute to business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, drafting proposals, and presenting technical solutions to clients.
  • Support sales and client engagement activities, including client needs assessments and follow-up communication.
  • Leverage industry expertise to identify trends and areas of opportunity for the business.

 

4. Proposal Development and Scope of Work (SOW) Development

  • Lead the preparation of high-quality technical proposals, including Scope of Work (SOW) documents, project timelines, and resource plans.
  • Work closely with business development and project teams to ensure alignment between the proposed solutions and client needs.
  • Ensure proposals clearly communicate the technical and strategic approach, value proposition, and expected outcomes.

 

5. Technical Report Writing and Content Creation

  • Draft comprehensive technical reports, including findings, analysis, and recommendations related to energy policy, regulatory compliance, and grid planning.
  • Produce high-quality written materials and though leadership content (e.g. white papers, insights, case studies) to support both clients and market positioning.
  • Support the creation of presentations and other materials to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

 

6. Internal Ideation and Strategic Initiative Execution

  • Collaborate with internal teams to ideate and execute strategic initiatives that align with the company’s goals.
  • Support the development and execution of internal innovation projects, ensuring alignment with market needs and the company's broader objectives.
  • Contribute to knowledge-sharing and best practice development within the team, fostering a collaborative environment.

 

7. Energy Policy, Regulatory and Grid Planning Expertise

  • Stay informed on the latest developments in energy policy, regulation, and grid planning, particularly in relation to the electric utility industry.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on regulatory requirements and policies that impact energy and grid operations.
  • Help translate complex energy policy and regulatory frameworks into actionable insights for clients and internal teams.
  • Support clients in navigating regulatory requirements and developing strategies for compliance and performance optimization.
Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Energy Policy, Environmental Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience working with electric utilities, energy policy, regulatory frameworks, and grid planning.
  • Proven experience in project management, with a track record of supporting or leading the execution of complex projects in the energy or utilities sector.
  • Experience in proposal writing, scope of work (SOW) development, and technical report writing.
  • Strong knowledge of energy policy, regulatory requirements, and grid planning frameworks (local, national, and global).
  • Ability to analyze complex energy and grid data, leveraging tools and methodologies to draw actionable insights.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy integration, smart grid technologies, and energy storage systems is a plus.

  • Business Acumen: Understanding of business development processes, client relationship management, and proposal development.
  • Project Management: Experience in managing multiple projects, including setting timelines, managing resources, and delivering results.
  • Software Proficiency: Familiarity with industry-specific software tools for data analysis, modeling, and reporting (e.g., GIS, power flow modeling tools, energy management software).

Location: This position will be US remote
