Roles & Responsibilities

  • Master's degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems
  • 5+ years of experience as a power systems engineer with experience on NERC PRC-024-3, PRC-029-1, MOD-026-1, MOD-027-1, and MOD-026-2
  • Experience performing power system impact studies (Steady State, Short Circuit, Dynamic Stability)
  • Proficiency with PSCAD and PSSE software and programming in Python

Requirements:

  • Perform detailed bulk power system studies using PSCAD and PSSE, including IBR modeling (steady state, short circuit, dynamic)
  • Conduct compliance assessments on IBR facility rating, protection coordination, and ride-through capability
  • Prepare technical study reports and manage data for related engineering studies; ensure timely project completion within quality and budget objectives
  • Identify training needs and present to Engineering Manager; perform other duties as assigned

Job description

Overview:

We are designing the grid of the future! 

Conduct IBR Dynamic Modeling studies which are particularly related to existing and future NERC reliability standards. This position will have specific emphasis placed on IBR plant dynamic modeling for NERC PRC-029-1 compliance.

Responsibilities:

How you can make an impact:

  • Perform detailed bulk power system studies using various power system software such as PSCAD and PSSE. 
  • Conduct IBR modeling: steady state, short circuit and dynamic. 
  • Perform various compliance technical assessments on IBR facility rating, protection coordination, ride through assessment. 
  • Process, generate and maintain data as required for other engineering related studies. 
  • Prepare technical study reports for all studies performed.  
  • Take responsibility for the timely completion of projects assigned while meeting all project quality and budget objectives.  
  • Identify training needs and present them to the Engineering Manager as needed. 
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.  
Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering with an emphasis in power systems 
  • 5 years+ of experience as a power systems engineer 
  • Experience with NERC PRC-024-3, NERC PRC-029-1, NERC MOD-026-1, NERC MOD-027-1, and NERC MOD-026-2 
  • Experience with performing power system impact studies such as Steady State, Short Circuit, and Dynamic Stability  
  • Experience with power systems software such as PSCAD and PSSE 
  • Experience with automating/programing in Python

Location: This position will be remote within the US.

Travel:  Occasional travel may be needed (10% or less)
