Roles & Responsibilities

Position Description

Surrey Place is hiring a Peer Support Mentor to join our Lived Experience Associate team.  The Peer Support Mentor will work with adults that have an intellectual and developmental disability (IDD) or autism spectrum disorder (ASD).  The Peer Support Mentor will help other people with Lived Experience to talk about their issues, brainstorming and providing mutual support in a safe environment. The Peer Support Mentor will report to the Manager of Research, Evaluation and Education. 

Main Responsibilities

  • Assist the Lived Experience Advisors in running of Peer Support sessions.
  • Share their lived experience with group members about session topics.
  • Make program materials for Peer Support.
  • Make sure session information is accessible and in plain language. 
  • Answer questions and help participants connect to resources if needed. 
  • Track group progress and feedback.
  • Co-design accessible surveys and questions.
  • Help set up weekly group sessions.

What We Are Looking For:

  • An adult with lived experience.
  • Enthusiastic about sharing lived experience as a person living with an Intellectual Developmental Disability (IDD).
  • Highschool Diploma and minimum 2 years working/volunteering experience or College Diploma and 1 year working/volunteering experience.
  • Leadership skills and/or be interested in learning leadership skills and awareness or experience with (Self) Advocacy.  
  • Be organized and attend scheduled meetings (with reminders if needed).
  • You enjoy working as part of a team and are interested in learning new skills.
  • Comfortable talking to groups in person. 
  • Be able to work from home and onsite at Surrey Place. 
  • A complete Police Records Check (Vulnerable Sector Screening). 
  • Being able to speak French is a plus.
