PRN Pharmacy Technician

Roles & Responsibilities

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Nationally accredited Pharmacy Technician certification (PTCB or ExCPT) with current status
  • Minimum 3 years CPhT experience in hospital or community pharmacy
  • Eligible to work nationwide; Texas State Board of Pharmacy registration preferred (may be required for some deployments)

Requirements:

  • Execute pharmacy services for the service population as prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician, applying best practice guidelines for medication inventory, storage, distribution, and documentation
  • Communicate effectively with health care providers and act as a liaison between pharmacy and medical staff; maintain accurate MAR and assist in MAR audits, reporting medication errors
  • Maintain adequate medication and supplies inventory, ensure items are within date and properly stored; dispose of unused and expired medications per established protocols; maintain electronic/paper medical records
  • Adhere to National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, participate in required trainings, and maintain a culture of safety and continuous improvement

Education Req: High School Diploma or equivalent required. Possess a nationally accredited (PTCB or ExCPT) Pharmacy Technician certification. Must hold current certification and be eligible to work Nationwide. Registration with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy is preferred and may be required for some deployments.

Experience Req: Minimum 3 years CPhT experience in either hospital or community pharmacy required.

Required ICS Courses:
•    ICS 100 – Introduction to Incident Command Systems 
•    ICS 200 – ICS for single resources and Initial Action Incidents 
•    ICS 700 – National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) and Introduction  
•    ICS 800 – National Response Framework, An Introduction 
•    *ICS 300 – Intermediate ICS for Expanding Incidents (must be completed upon hire)
•    *ICS 400 – Advanced ICS Command and General Staff – Complex Incidents (must be completed upon hire) * May be waived upon hire, however required to be completed within 3 months of hire or will be terminated due to noncompliance.

Responsibilities and Duties:
1.    Understand and adhere to the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual.
2.    Foster a culture that encourages team members to work safely, identify potential hazards, and report safety concerns immediately to their direct chain of command.
3.    Maintain active status within the agency’s platforms, including learning management systems to complete training that may be directed toward self-improvement, mission-specifics, or Just-In-Time (JIT) training.
4.    Execute assigned pharmacy services for the service population as prescribed by an advanced practice provider or physician and apply best practice guidelines to include but not limited to medication inventory, storage, distribution, and documentation.
5.    Communicate effectively with health care providers regarding care for service population and be a liaison between pharmacy and medical staff.
6.    Maintain adequate inventory of all medications/supplies, ensure medications/supplies are within date and properly stored.
7.    Dispose of all unused and expired medications properly according to established protocols.
8.    Maintain electronic/paper medical health care records as determined by event/deployment.
9.    Develop and maintain an accurate medication administration record (MAR) for each client.
10.    Assist in daily MAR audits, ensuring proper documentation. Reporting all medication errors utilizing chain of command.
11.    Compile daily medical lists and distribute to all designated staff.
12.    Maintain first aid kits per licensing standards, if applicable.
13.    Assist in medication intake/discharge process in collaboration with other medical staff.
14.    Other duties as assigned. 


Requirements:
1.    Understand and adhere to the National EMR Policies and Procedures Manual, Uniform Handbook, and Operations Manual. 
2.    Know and recognize the signs of abuse, neglect, exploitation, and sexually provocative behavior when observing colleagues and clients and implement professional response, reporting, and documenting procedures.
3.    Maintain active status within the agency’s web-based learning management system to complete trainings that may be directed toward self-improvement, mission-specifics, or Just-In-time (JIT). 
4.    Maintain and produce (when needed) all required professional certifications, licensures, memberships, military discharge, and/or Honorable Discharge upon request. 
5.    Maintain ability to pass a clear NCIC, CAN background check to be eligible for specific deployments, if/when required.
6.    Adhere to acceptable standards of professional integrity and accountability in the workplace, and comply with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, and regulations in all duties. 
7.    Provide proof of valid driver’s license and driving record in good standing with no restrictions (subject to review annually).
8.    Demonstrate the ability to:
a.    Respond sensitively and competently to the service population’s cultural and socio-economic characteristics.
b.    Work collaboratively with other staff members, service providers, professionals, and clients.
c.    Maintain professional people skills and non-verbal communication skills. 
d.    Communicate effectively, verbally and in written form, in English.
e.    Work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining control and professional composure and making decisions based on the needs of the program and service population.
f.    Maintain intermediate to advanced computer literacy (specifically Microsoft Suite).
g.    Be detail oriented and organized.
h.    Work effectively and without intensive supervision both independently and as a member of a multidisciplinary team.
i.    Utilize a variety of communication systems to provide situational awareness across the response (cellular, two-way radio, satellite, etc.).
j.    Perform physical activity such as extensive walking, stretching, bending, and occasionally lifting and/or exceeding 50 lbs.
k.    Work extended hours and/or non-traditional hours (Ex. Weekends, evenings, holidays, in austere conditions).
9.    Must provide current physical-medical release and provide proof of immunizations, exemptions, or declinations for the following:

a.    Influenza

b.    MMR 

c.    Varicella 

d.    HepB 

e.    HepA 

f.    Tetanus 

g.    PPD, IGRA, or Chest X-ray

h.    Meningococcal (preferred)

10.    Must successfully pass a scheduled or spontaneous drug screening/background check.
