The App Dev – Engineering group within IT is seeking a Senior Business Systems Analyst to partner closely with business stakeholders and technology teams to deliver enhancements to Protective’s externally facing web applications. This role plays a critical part in shaping solutions, translating business needs into clear requirements, ensuring quality delivery, and supporting systems throughout their lifecycle.
The Senior BSA operates independently or as a project/team lead, providing direction across multiple concurrent initiatives while balancing business value, technical feasibility, and delivery risk.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise & Solution Analysis
Identify opportunities to improve business outcomes through technology and recommend solution approaches aligned to enterprise strategy.
Analyze complex business and system impacts of proposed changes and clearly communicate trade-offs and recommendations.
Serve as a trusted advisor to business partners on system capabilities, constraints, and optimization opportunities.
Agile Delivery & Project Leadership
Lead or contribute to multiple initiatives using appropriate delivery and tracking methodologies (Agile, hybrid, or waterfall as applicable).
Produce clear documentation including scope, requirements, dependencies, risks, and release/implementation plans.
Provide regular, concise status updates to stakeholders and delivery teams.
User Story & Requirements Development
Elicit and document requirements using techniques such as workshops, interviews, prototyping, and process walkthroughs.
Develop high-quality epics, features, and user stories with well-defined acceptance criteria.
Ensure requirements are clear, testable, traceable, and aligned with defined standards.
Collaborate closely with developers and QA to ensure shared understanding of requirements, designs, and expected outcomes.
Quality Assurance & Testing
As part of the development team to execute on effective test strategies, including functional and regression testing affirming all acceptance criteria has been met.
Participate in reviews of requirements, designs, and code to ensure quality and completeness, including both positive and negative test cases are included.
Proactively identify risks, defects, and gaps through analysis and testing activities.
Production Support
Diagnose and manage complex production issues to resolution, working closely with technical teams.
Provide clear, actionable diagnostic information and recommendations.
Communicate effectively with end users and stakeholders during issue resolution.
Training & Enablement
Develop user documentation and training materials for new or enhanced system functionality.
Deliver training and knowledge transfer as needed to ensure successful adoption.
Qualifications & Skills
7+ years of experience as a Business Systems Analyst or similar role, preferably supporting web-based applications
Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Strong experience working on Agile teams, including writing user stories and acceptance criteria
Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills
Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure
Working knowledge of analysis and modeling techniques (process flows, use cases, diagrams)
Experience with manual and automated testing approaches
Technical familiarity with SQL, HTML, XML, JSON is a plus
Demonstrated curiosity and willingness to learn new systems and processes within Protective
