Roles & Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute the Company's global intellectual property strategy, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, licensing, and IP risk management.
  • Strong technical depth and experience as an attorney with ability to partner with engineering/product teams.
  • Experience managing internal legal resources and outside counsel, budgets, and performance.
  • Experience advising on IP aspects of strategic transactions (M&A, divestitures, joint ventures) and drafting/negotiating IP licenses and related agreements.

Requirements:

  • Lead and execute the global IP strategy, overseeing patent portfolio development, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement; manage trademarks, copyrights, and trade secret protection; coordinate with engineers and outside counsel.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate technology-enabled commercial agreements, including licensing, joint development, confidentiality, and strategic partnerships; advise on IP matters in strategic transactions.
  • Provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice to executive leadership and cross-functional teams; manage internal resources and oversee outside counsel, including budget and performance; present IP strategy and matters to the Board when appropriate.
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, and industry developments affecting IP and technology, and advise on their impact to Hyper Solutions and product strategy.

Summary: 

  

The Assistant General Counsel, Intellectual Property will serve as the senior legal leader responsible for the Company’s intellectual property strategy and execution, while also supporting core commercial and strategic legal initiatives across the enterprise. This role will own and lead the Company’s IP function, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, licensing, and IP risk management, and will partner closely with engineering, product, operations, and executive leadership.


This is a senior leadership position with regular visibility to executive leadership and exposure to the Board of Directors. The role is designed for an experienced attorney with strong technical depth, sound commercial judgment, and leadership capability, who is interested in long-term growth toward broader enterprise legal leadership, including potential progression to Chief IP Counsel.

Requirements

  

Intellectual Property Leadership

  • Lead and execute the Company’s global intellectual property strategy, ensuring alignment with business objectives, product roadmaps, and long-term growth plans.
  • Oversee the development, prosecution, maintenance, and enforcement of the Company’s patent portfolio, including coordination with engineers, inventors, and outside counsel.
  • Manage trademark, copyright, and trade secret protection strategies and policies.


Commercial and Strategic Support

  • Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of technology-enabled commercial agreements, including licensing, joint development, confidentiality, and strategic partnership agreements.
  • Support broader commercial legal efforts, including supply chain, manufacturing, and technology agreements.
  • Advise on IP aspects of mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, and other strategic transactions.
  • Provide pragmatic, business-focused legal advice to executive leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.


Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a trusted legal advisor to senior leadership on IP strategy, risk, and value creation.
  • Manage and mentor internal legal resources and oversee outside counsel, including budget and performance management.
  • Present IP strategy, risk assessments, and significant matters to executive leadership and, as appropriate, the Board of Directors.
  • Monitor legal, regulatory, and industry developments affecting intellectual property, technology, and engineered products, and proactively advise on impacts.

Compensation

The anticipated minimum hiring range for this role starts at $190,000 per year. Actual salary varies due to factors that may include but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, and location. This hire will be eligible for a discretionary bonus or incentive compensation. Variable compensation may depend on various factors, such as individual and organizational performance.
