Overview
The Financial Controller is a motivated, self-starter that works hands on with strong ERP expertise and practical database administration (DBA) capability to lead our accounting function while serving as the financial systems owner for the organization.
This role combines:
- Traditional controllership responsibilities
- ERP system leadership and optimization
- Data integrity, reporting architecture, and database oversight
The ideal candidate understands that in a regulated manufacturing environment, financial accuracy and system integrity are inseparable.
A successful Financial Controller must own the challenge and the outcome (good or bad), serve with humility, and be collaborative and fun. This team member should have excellent interpersonal skills, great attention to detail and be highly organized with the ability to multi task with minimum interruption to work progress.
Job Duties
- Financial Leadership & Control
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
- Ensure GAAP compliance and internal controls
- Oversee AR, AP, payroll, cost accounting, and inventory accounting
- Review and maintain labor and overhead rates
- Analyze manufacturing costs and prepare regular reports comparing standard costs to actual production costs.
- Ensure inventory and cost of goods sold is appropriately valued; review of standard costs, inventory account reconciliations and analysis of reserves
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning
- Support audit preparation and external auditor coordination
- Support strong internal control environment
- ERP Ownership & Optimization
- Serve as system owner for the company’s ERP platform for finance and inventory modules
- Lead ERP configuration, upgrades, and optimization initiatives
- Ensure alignment between finance, operations, supply chain, and quality data flows
- Develop dashboards and KPI reporting tools for leadership
- Partner cross-functionally to improve system utilization
- Database & Data Governance Oversight
- Oversee ERP database integrity and performance
- Manage reporting architecture and data structure
- Work with IT or external providers on database maintenance
- Maintain data governance standards and audit trails
- Support regulatory and customer audit data requests
Note: This role is not expected to replace enterprise IT infrastructure ownership but should be technically capable of understanding and supervising database structure, reporting queries, and ERP data architecture.
- Strategic & Operational Support
- Partner with Operations to improve cost visibility and margin management
- Support capital investment analysis and ROI modeling
- Assist in pricing strategy through cost and profitability analysis
- Improve financial literacy across departments
- Provide decision-support analytics to executive leadership
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- 7+ years progressive accounting experience
- 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting leadership role
- Deep hands-on ERP experience (implementation or major optimization preferred)
- Strong understanding of database structure (SQL knowledge preferred)
- Experience in manufacturing environment
- Strong cost accounting and inventory experience
Preferred
- CPA or CMA designation
- Experience in regulated industries (medical device preferred)
- Experience working with IT or managing ERP upgrades
- Practical DBA or advanced reporting experience
- Exposure to cybersecurity and data governance practices
Technical Skills
- ERP systems (implementation or optimization experience required)
- SQL querying and reporting tools
- Advanced Excel and financial modeling
- Understanding of database structure, user permissions, and audit trails
- Business intelligence/dashboard tools a plus

Schedule
Monday through Friday, sometimes requiring extended work hours,. The work environment for this position will be both an office environment and manufacturing work cells and cleanroom environments.
