Requirements:

  • Supports the Executive Director and volunteer leaders in establishing sound plans for revenue generation, special event fundraising, mission outreach, and awareness.
  • Generate revenue through 2-3 assigned special events and other fundraising initiatives; plan and execute events, solicit sponsors, secure honorees, and coach fundraising teams/individuals; oversee event logistics and promotion.
  • Recruit and develop volunteer leaders for local committees; grow a diverse and engaged volunteer pipeline; provide recruitment, recognition, training, and leadership development.
  • Cultivate and advance relationships with corporate partners, event participants, healthcare providers, and other key constituents; contribute to a culture of philanthropy and high performance in the market.

POSITION SUMMARY (Basic purpose or primary function of job)

Development Directors (DD) are responsible for partnering closely with their Executive Directors (ED) and community volunteer leaders to support and execute an annual plan of work that addresses the needs of the arthritis community in their assigned market(s) including revenue generation, special event fundraising, and mission outreach. DD’s recruit, develop and manage event committees and volunteer leaders to achieve fundraising goals from the annual plan.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Principal responsibilities or job duties

  1. Supports ED and volunteer leaders, ensuring sound plans are established for revenue generation, special event fundraising, mission outreach and awareness.
  2. Responsible for generating revenue through 2-3 assigned special events (Such as Walk to Cure Arthritis, Jingle Bell Run, Gala) and other fundraising initiatives.  Achieve goals set in annual plans by planning and executing special events, soliciting sponsors, securing event honorees and coaching fundraising teams/individuals.  DD also oversees all event logistics and promotion.
  3. Recruit the right volunteer leaders for local committee roles while also growing a diverse and engaged volunteer pipeline that fosters volunteer recruitment, recognition, training, and leadership development.  
  4. Cultivates, stewards and advances relationships with corporate partners, event participants healthcare providers and other key constituents within the market. 
  5. Actively participates in building a culture of philanthropy by building dynamic, impactful volunteer committees. Key contributor to the development of a high-performing market; creates an environment of ownership, excellence and tenacity where volunteers and staff are committed to achieve market goals.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  1. Bachelor’s degree and/or a minimum of 3 (three) years of non-profit, fundraising or related experience .
  2. Distinguished track record of volunteer stewardship, formulation of high-impact partnerships and consistency in exceeding established goals.
  3. Proficiency in applying sales and relationship building techniques to a non-profit setting.
  4. Ability to relate and leverage the Arthritis Foundation’s mission into effective, sustained relationships and successful projects.
  5. Experience managing portfolio of revenue generation activities including direct execution special event fundraising, major gift solicitation, corporate and foundation support.
