Job description
The Seasonal Associate R & D Manager will assist in the development of new and improved alfalfa varieties as part of a leading research team. This individual will be responsible for supporting all activities associated with field nurseries and yield trials in a field-testing site at Mt Joy, PA. The part time seasonal position is expected to be approximately six months and work no more than 32 hours per week.
Roles/Responsibilities
Perform research activities in field, including field preparation, seedbed preparation, planting, propagation, transplanting, plant maintenance, fertigation, integrated pest management, tissue sampling, crop rotation, plot maintenance, irrigation, pesticide application, forage quality sampling, field monitoring, data collection and record keeping. Coordinate field days and site tours. Report to Breeding Director by providing instant feedback and data collected from trials.
Required Experience/Knowledge
At least ten years of crop research and cultivar testing experience
At least ten years of field equipment utilization and maintenance experience
General understanding of agricultural cultural practices (e.g. ground preparation, weed control, fertility management)
Excellent organizational, planning, and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and inter-personal skills
Capable of lifting 50 lbs.
Ability to travel as needed
Preferred qualifications:
Strong preference with years of experience in conducting research in alfalfa.
