Roles & Responsibilities

Requirements:

  • Work directly with suppliers to address quality or delivery performance issues and lead corrective actions and improvements
  • Qualify new suppliers, components, and supplier processes; perform capability assessments and special process audits as needed
  • Develop and approve PPAP submissions, set supplier inspection requirements, and evaluate PPAP submissions for production readiness
  • Liaise between suppliers and internal functions (engineering, quality, operations) to clarify requirements, drive accountability, and deploy supplier-related policies per ISO 9001 and the Henny Penny Quality Management System

The Supplier Quality Engineer II works closely with cross-functional teams, including Design Engineering, Supply Chain, Production, Warranty, Supplier Partners, and other Quality Engineers to identify and mitigate supplier quality risks. They support containment of supplier originated quality issues and issues, approve, and verify supplier corrective action requests and responses. They qualify new suppliers (including onsite quality audits and survey evaluation) and monitor their performance and develop suppliers as needed. They provide supplied part acceptance criteria, evaluation of meeting the criteria (PPAP), and approve new supplied parts for production use. Performs work under general supervision. Handles moderately complex issues and problems; refers more complex issues to higher-level staff. Possesses solid working knowledge of subject matter. May provide leadership, coaching, and/or mentoring to others in the department.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Works directly with suppliers where Quality or Delivery performance, or business risk demands robust corrective action and improvement. Utilizes expertise and a wide range of tools to identify and lead improvement actions including Problem Solving and Auditing.
  • Qualifying new suppliers, new components, and new supplier processes
  • Performs capability (Product, Process, Materials Management) assessments and where necessary, Special Process Audits with key suppliers to evaluate the application of advanced quality tools, manufacturing capabilities, and material management. Support the development of subsequent improvement plans and coordinates milestones & completion of actions against an agreed project charter.
  • Assesses Production Readiness with suppliers, as needed.
  • Actively supports supply chain cost reduction projects and new product introduction by ensuring compliance to process, and providing PPAP requirements, evaluation of PPAP submissions, and approval of PPAP submissions.
  • Sets inspection requirements at the supplier facility or at Henny Penny manufacturing locations (receiving inspection criteria).
  • Monitors performance, communicate expectations, and require actions for all assigned suppliers.
  • Functions as a liaison, in support of Supply Chain, between suppliers and internal functions/plants (engineering, quality, operations, etc.) to clarify requirements, facilitate communication and drive accountability.
  • Leads/supports cross functional teams in the development and deployment of effective supplier related policies, processes, and procedures per ISO9001 and Henny Penny Quality Management System.
  • Consistently models the Company values and expected behaviors.

What We're Looking For

  • Bachelor (Other) Degree in a technical discipline Required
  • 3+ years experience Required
  • Experience working with a supply base that are providing component parts to a manufacturing operation Required
  • Experience in independently auditing manufacturing operations to ISO9001 or equivalent requirements and performing gap analysis for supplier operations Required
  • Ability to read engineering prints and an understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Comprehensive knowledge of problem solving and continuous improvement tools and techniques (7 Quality Tools, FMEA, VSM, SPC, MSA, etc.)
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. Mini-Tab and/or JMP experience a plus.
  • Understanding metrology tools and their application and limitations.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication, organization, and time-management skills.
  • Someone who is self-motivated, a team player, and has a desire to grow, based on his/her performance.
  • Seeks to continuously improve skills.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills with an attention to detail.
  • CMQ/OE, CQE, CQA, and CSQP is a plus
