Google Ads Specialist
Full-Time | Remote (South Africa) | Paid Search & Performance

Overview
A performance marketing agency is hiring a Google Ads Specialist to lead and scale its
Google advertising capability.
This is a full-time, exclusive role responsible for building, managing, and optimising
Google Ads campaigns across multiple client accounts. The successful candidate will act as
the agency’s dedicated Google expert, owning campaign performance across Search,
Performance Max, Shopping, Display, and YouTube.
The role involves managing approximately $100,000 per month in ad spend across a
diverse client portfolio including eCommerce, lead generation, and B2B brands.

Key Responsibilities
Campaign Management
● Build, launch, and manage campaigns across Search, Performance Max,
Shopping, YouTube, and Display.
● Audit existing accounts to identify quick wins and structural improvements.
● Conduct keyword research, match type strategy, and search term analysis.
● Write and optimise Responsive Search Ads, display ads, and YouTube ads.
● Manage bidding strategies including Smart Bidding, Target CPA, Target ROAS,
Maximize Conversions, and Manual CPC.

Performance Optimisation
● Monitor and optimise campaign performance daily.
● Manage negative keyword lists and budget pacing to maintain spend quality.
● Build audiences for RLSA, remarketing, and similar audiences.
● Run A/B tests across ad copy, landing pages, bidding strategies, and targeting.

● Set up and troubleshoot conversion tracking via Google Tag Manager and GA4.

Reporting & Collaboration
● Produce clear internal performance reports.
● Provide weekly performance updates outlining results, issues, and next steps.
● Proactively flag budget pacing issues, underperforming campaigns, and growth
opportunities.
● Collaborate with leadership on campaign strategy, offers, and performance goals.

Client & Agency Setup
● Help define the agency’s Google Ads service offering, including:
○ Processes
○ SOPs
○ Account structures
○ Naming conventions
● Audit and onboard new Google Ads accounts.
● Manage multiple client campaigns simultaneously while maintaining strong
performance.

Clients & Campaign Objectives
Campaigns will support a variety of business models.
eCommerce / DTC
● Google Shopping
● Performance Max for retail
● Search campaigns focused on ROAS
● Remarketing for abandoned carts

Lead Generation
● Search campaigns targeting high-intent keywords
● Call and form conversion campaigns
● CPA-optimised bidding
● Local and national targeting

B2B

● Search campaigns targeting decision-makers
● Campaigns designed to generate demos and consultations
● YouTube for awareness and retargeting
● Optimisation for longer sales cycles

Requirements
Essential Experience
● Minimum 3 years managing Google Ads campaigns, ideally in an agency.
● Hands-on experience with Search, Performance Max, Shopping, Display, and
YouTube Ads.
● Experience managing campaigns across multiple industries.
● Proven ability to manage $50K–$100K+ monthly ad spend.
● Strong knowledge of Google Ads bidding strategies including Target CPA, Target
ROAS, Maximize Conversions, and Manual CPC.
● Experience setting up and troubleshooting conversion tracking via GTM and GA4.
● Strong keyword research, match type strategy, and search term analysis skills.

Soft Skills
● Proactive self-starter who identifies and solves problems independently.
● Strong attention to detail (negative keywords, budgets, quality scores).
● Clear communicator capable of concise performance updates.
● Comfortable managing multiple client accounts simultaneously.
● Highly results-driven with focus on ROAS, CPA, and CPL.

Desirable (Not Essential)
● Google Ads Certifications (Search, Shopping, Video, or Display).
● Experience with Google Ads Editor.
● Familiarity with Looker Studio reporting dashboards.
● Experience helping build a Google Ads offering within an agency.
● Basic understanding of Meta Ads for cross-channel alignment.

Role Expectations
To avoid confusion:
● This is not a freelance or part-time role.
● This role focuses entirely on Google Ads (not Meta Ads).
● This is not a junior position.
● The role involves building and defining the agency’s Google Ads processes, not
following an existing playbook.
● The position owns execution, optimisation, and performance outcomes, not just
reporting.

Success in the First 90 Days
Days 1–30
● Audit existing accounts and identify optimisation opportunities.
● Present clear account roadmaps.
● Launch and optimise initial campaigns.
Days 31–60
● Accounts running with clean structure and accurate conversion tracking.
● Weekly reporting processes established.
● Negative keywords and optimisation routines implemented.
Days 61–90
● Campaign performance trending positively.
● CPA and ROAS targets achieved or on track.
● Google Ads service processes documented and scalable.
