Platform and Infrastructure Lead (w/m/d)

About the Role:

You will build and lead the new Tech Infrastructure team at GROPYUS — the foundation that enables all our technical teams to deliver, from cloud environments to production facilities to construction sites. 

As Platform & Infrastructure Lead, you'll shape a team of up to four engineers and take ownership of how we run infrastructure across the company. You'll be hands-on where it matters — making architecture decisions, solving complex problems, and setting technical direction — while growing a high-performing team that delivers reliable services with clear SLOs. 

This is a role for someone who enjoys bridging worlds: cloud platforms and physical hardware, strategic planning and practical implementation, technical excellence and people development. You'll have the autonomy to hire your own team, define standards, and build the infrastructure practices that GROPYUS relies on. 

What you'll be doing:

As Platform & Infrastructure Lead, you will be responsible for: 

• Leading and growing a team of senior and staff engineers — including hiring, mentoring, and supporting their professional development 

• Owning the technical direction for our infrastructure services: managed Kubernetes, Linux and Windows servers, PostgreSQL, monitoring, networking, and physical infrastructure across multiple sites 

• Delivering Infrastructure as a Service to all GROPYUS teams with defined SLOs and reliable support 

• Driving standardisation and automation — building reusable infrastructure patterns and reducing manual operations through Infrastructure as Code and automated workflows 

• Collaborating with other technology teams, lead engineering peers, and the staff engineer community to align on needs and ensure our services enable their success 

• Balancing hands-on technical contribution with leadership responsibilities — you'll stay close to the technology while empowering your team 

What you bring:

• You're an experienced infrastructure engineer who has moved into technical leadership, with a strong background across cloud platforms, networking, and server management 

• You've led or mentored engineers and understand what it takes to build a collaborative, high-performing team 

• You have practical experience with hybrid infrastructure — you're equally comfortable discussing Kubernetes deployments and planning physical rack installations 

• You've worked with monitoring and observability tools and have experience defining and operating against SLOs 

• You bring a service-oriented mindset: you think about reliability, documentation, and making infrastructure easy for others to use 

• You have experience with physical infrastructure — you're comfortable planning and organising IT hardware deployments across multiple sites, including racks, cabling, and network equipment 

• You're driven to automate: manual operations feel like a problem to solve, not a default way of working 

• You're familiar with most of the following areas:  

• • Cloud platforms 

• • Kubernetes administration and operations 

• • Linux and Windows server management 

• • Network infrastructure (firewalls, VPN, switches, Wifi) 

• • Monitoring stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, or similar) 

• • Infrastructure as Code and configuration management 

• You're based in Germany and open to occasional travel to our sites to support physical infrastructure work
