  • Curriculum Development: design structured lesson plans, incorporate music theory, notation reading and ear training, and prepare students for recitals or performances
  • Student Progress Evaluation: regularly assess progress, provide constructive feedback, encourage practice routines and set performance goals
  • Communication: maintain regular communication with students and parents about progress, goals, and expectations; advise on equipment and accessories

Job description

This is a remote position.

We are seeking a passionate and experienced Drum Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in percussion, particularly in teaching drums to students of varying skill levels, from beginners to advanced players. This position requires a dedicated educator who can inspire students, tailor lessons to individual learning styles and foster a love for music. The teacher will create engaging lesson plans, assess student progress and help students develop both technical proficiency and musicality.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Teach Drum Lessons:
  • Instruct students on the fundamentals of drumming, including technique, rhythm, timing and coordination.
  • Customize lessons based on student skill levels and learning goals.
  • Introduce students to various drumming styles, including rock, jazz, funk, blues and more.
2. Curriculum Development:
  • Design structured lesson plans for individual students or group classes.
  • Incorporate music theory, notation reading and ear training as part of the instruction.
  • Prepare students for recitals, exams or performances if applicable.
3. Student Progress Evaluation:
  • Regularly assess and track student progress.
  • Provide constructive feedback, encourage practice routines and suggest improvements.
  • Develop performance goals and milestones for each student.
4. Communication:
  • Maintain regular communication with students and their parents (where applicable) about progress, goals and expectations.
  • Offer guidance on purchasing appropriate drum equipment and accessories.
5. Classroom Management:
  • Foster a positive and engaging learning environment.
  • Manage group dynamics in case of group lessons.
  • Adapt teaching methods to cater to different learning speeds and styles.
6. Performance Preparation:
  • Prepare students for school concerts, talent shows or external competitions.
  • Organize student showcases to highlight progress and achievements.
7. Administrative Duties:
  • Maintain attendance records and lesson schedules.
  • Coordinate with the administrative team for billing and scheduling.
  • Stay updated with the latest trends in drum education and incorporate new techniques into lessons.


Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Education or a related field (preferred but not mandatory based on experience).
  • Experience: Proven experience as a Drum Teacher or professional drummer. Experience with both individual and group instruction.
  • Skills:
  1. Strong proficiency in a variety of drumming styles and techniques.
  2. Ability to teach both children and adults. 
  3. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. 
  4. Ability to motivate and inspire students. 
  5. Familiarity with music technology, including recording software and electronic drum kits, is a plus.
  • Certifications: Music teaching certification (optional, but a plus).
  • Availability: Flexible schedule, including availability for evening and weekend classes if required.
  • Preferred Qualities:
  1. Patience and enthusiasm for teaching. 
  2. Passion for music and a desire to share it with others.
  3. Willingness to participate in school events, such as recitals or workshops.
