Job description

The Opportunity

The instructional team at The Art of Education University (AOEU) represents and supports K-12 classrooms, studios, and learning spaces across the country and brings highly specialized skills in art and education to the AOEU graduate-level student experience. We are actively seeking Remote Adjunct Instructors who lead with professionalism and creativity and thrive in an online learning environment. 

Adjunct Instructors at AOEU play a pivotal role in creating learning experiences that are engaging, supportive, and academically rigorous. Successful candidates are not only skilled in their discipline but also approachable, encouraging, and committed to meeting students where they are, while challenging them to meet or exceed graduate-level expectations.

AOEU is especially interested in candidates with advanced qualifications in 2-Dimensional Media, 3-Dimensional Media, Printmaking, Fibers, Choice, and Action Research. The ideal candidates are experts in upholding high academic expectations and providing supportive feedback through written communications, faculty-mediated course interactions, and weekly assignments.

Structured as a remote part-time exempt position. This position will report to the Chair of Faculty Development.

AOEU has been a 100% remote company since the beginning!  This position is eligible for remote work from the following locations: USA.

What to expect in this role: 

Training

  • Attend one group synchronous onboarding meeting 
  • Complete training modules within our LMS
  • Audit one course using the same LMS to learn the course structure and format

Instructional Duties

  • Instruct courses as assigned throughout the year on a mutually agreed-upon basis
  • Meet weekly faculty communication responsibilities within AOEU systems
  • Provide timely, equitable, creative, and rich feedback to support adult learners' growth and academic integrity
  • Attend three required faculty meetings per year
  • Complete the Annual Checkpoint review process

What we are looking for:

Required

  • Master’s degree in art education or a related field
  • Five or more years of K-12 teaching experience in the field of art education
  • Extensive knowledge of art education principles and practices

Preferred

  • An earned terminal degree (PhD, EdD, EdS, MFA)
  • Expertise with the D2L (Brightspace) platform
  • Subject-matter expertise in 2D, 3D, Printmaking, Fibers, Choice, or Action Research
  • Experience in higher education, adult learning, or distance education

Remote Considerations

Since AOE operations in a fully-remote/online environment, requirements include frequent and prolonged use of computers and other technology, and the ability to enter information into a computer using a keyboard or alternative. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and the market. We encourage you to discuss your compensation requirements early in the process. 

The Interview and Hiring Process

  • Step 1: 15-minute phone interview with the hiring manager
  • Step 2: Round 2 Packet & Interview
    • AOEU is 100% remote, and this step is intended to see how you might work through some of the daily tasks, responsibilities, and challenges that could arise in this role. You will be given a prompt and be asked to complete a task, which will then be used to guide a one-hour Zoom interview with AOEU Leadership. The intention is for you to get a sense of the role and give us an opportunity to see your skills in action. Your answers will not be used for any other purposes beyond evaluating your candidacy.
