  • Preference given to candidates with online teaching experience

Requirements:

  • Teach Organic Chemistry I lecture and Organic Chemistry I lab as a single course for teaching load
  • Deliver and assess course content including structure, nomenclature, stereochemistry, reaction mechanisms, and polymer chemistry, with integrated lab components and virtual/at-home assignments
  • Develop and administer assessments, provide timely feedback, and support online/remote students
  • Collaborate with online teaching teams and align instruction with competency-based education and the college mission

Health Science Adjunct - Organic Chemistry Description


South College is seeking a Part-Time Adjunct Faculty member who is a subject matter expert in Organic Chemistry. Course content encompasses the fundamental concepts and principles of organic chemistry which include, but are not limited to, the following topics: 

  • Introduction to the various classes of organic compounds, their structure and properties, along with their nomenclature and stereochemistry.
  • An in-depth understanding of the various kinds of organic reactions, functional derivatives, reaction mechanisms, and organic polymer chemistry.

The laboratory courses have been designed to be taken concurrently with, and to supplement the subject matter covered in the lectures. Virtual or at-home assignments have been integrated into the laboratory courses. The lectures and laboratories have separate course codes but together constitute a single course for teaching load (i.e. one Organic Chemistry I Lecture and one Organic Chemistry I Lab count as one course).

Requirements

 Candidates must show evidence of the following:

Education

  • A minimum of an acceptable master’s degree in the specific subject matter field (doctorate preferred) 

OR

  • An earned master’s or doctoral degree and satisfactory completion of 18 graduate semester hours in subject matter field and

Experience

  • Experience teaching similar courses at a higher education institute.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching online.
