Structural Designer

This is a remote position.

Our client is looking for a full-time Structural Designer (Civil Engineer) to support their expanding workload and contribute to high-quality residential structural design projects. They operate within the residential construction and engineering sector and have spent recent years strengthening their reputation for delivering reliable, code-compliant solutions for builders and developers across diverse housing projects.

This role is ideal for someone who is precise, analytical, and comfortable working with multiple active projects in a fast-paced environment. The Structural Designer will play a key role in producing structural drawings, coordinating with architects and builders, and ensuring all designs meet local code requirements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare structural drawing redlines for residential projects, including foundation plans, framing layouts, roof plans, shear wall configurations, and detailed structural notes.
  

• Perform structural analysis for wood framing, conventionally reinforced slabs, post-tensioned slabs, CMU pier systems, and other common residential structural systems.
  

• Coordinate with architects, builders, developers, and internal teams to clarify design intent and ensure constructability.
  

• Review architectural drawings and develop efficient, cost-conscious structural layouts that support value engineering efforts.
  

• Update structural plans to reflect field conditions, site changes, client requests, or revised project requirements.
  

• Assist with schematic designs, preliminary framing concepts, and proposal exhibits when needed.
  

• Ensure all plans adhere to relevant building codes, including IRC/IBC, City of Houston standards, and geotechnical recommendations.
  

Requirements

• 1–2+ years of experience in structural design (residential experience strongly preferred).
  

• Strong understanding of wood-framed construction, floor systems, roof framing, and residential foundation methods.
  

• Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings and convert them into structural plans.
  

• Knowledge of local code requirements and design best practices.
  

• Excellent organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  

Qualifications

• Proficiency in AutoCAD.
  

• Familiarity with structural design software used in analysis and modeling.
  

• Experience with tools such as AutoCAD and Bluebeam.
  

• Civil engineering background is strongly preferred.
