Assistant Manager Business Development

Roles & Responsibilities

  • A diploma or degree related to Transport, Logistics, or Supply Chain Management with 5+ years of experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry, including experience in a business development or sales role with an existing customer base
  • Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills in Sinhala and English
  • Strong understanding of logistics operations and the freight industry, products and services with a proven track record in business development or sales within the freight forwarding sector
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint); ability to utilize computer applications as an added advantage

Requirements:

  • Achieve and exceed gross profit targets monthly, quarterly, and annually while maximizing profits of assigned accounts
  • Build and maintain a strong sales pipeline through lead generation, prospecting, and networking; acquire new local and international accounts; negotiate competitive rates with FCL/LCL and transport service providers
  • Develop and manage relationships with key customer accounts and overseas agents; coordinate with internal teams to resolve client issues and ensure smooth export procedures, including handling air freight shipments and rate negotiations
  • Monitor accounts receivable as per company guidelines, resolve contractual and commercial disputes, support the business development team, and oversee monthly department checklists

  • Working hours 8 AM -  5 PM (onsite), SAT 9 AM - 1 PM (remote working unless requested to be present at the office)
  • Working days Monday -Friday, Saturday 1/2 Day

Requirements:

  • A diploma or degree related to Transport or Logistics & Supply Chain Management with 5+ years of experience in the freight forwarding and logistics industry with similar experience in a business development or a sales position with an existing customer base
  • Good presentation skills, communication skills, and negotiation skills in both Sinhala and English

Responsibilities

  • Achieving and exceeding the gross profit target on a monthly, quarterly, or annual basis
  • Building and maintaining a strong sales pipeline through lead generation, prospects, and networking efforts
  • Resolving any issues faced by clients and being a median between your customer and the internal teams
  • Monitoring and collecting accounts receivables based on the company guidelines New account acquisitions, both local and international
  • Negotiating competitive rates with FCL/LCL and transport service providers and carriers
  • Managing and maximizing profits of individual and assigned accounts
  • Coordinating with overseas agents and ensuring smooth operation of export procedures
  • Developing and managing relationships with key customer accounts and carriers
  • Handling Air freight shipments, freight rate negotiations and monitoring operations
  • Resolving contractual and commercial disputes
  • Supporting the business development team
  • Monitoring monthly checklists of the department
