Roles & Responsibilities

  • Technical knowledge in virtualization technologies and data center operations; ability to troubleshoot issues in a virtual environment; experience with hypervisors such as VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V
  • Desired skills: automation/orchestration tools (Ansible, Terraform); containerization (Docker, Kubernetes); storage (SAN/NAS); networking concepts (VLANs, virtual switches); cloud-based virtualization (AWS, Azure)

Requirements:

  • Provide Level I/II technical support to server technicians, network admins, and support personnel for data center systems, including cabling, power management, space planning, and cooling in a large, complex environment
  • Troubleshoot complex problems spanning multiple subsystems in the data center, leveraging in-depth knowledge of HPC infrastructure, cooling, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and water systems (open and closed loop)
  • Collaborate on data center consolidation efforts, engaging with customers to evaluate, design, and plan consolidation activities as needed
  • Develop innovative solutions to significant and unusual problems and provide analysis to executive management on information, trends, and goals to improve data center operations

Job description

Overview:

Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a Data Center Virtual System Administrator to support a major national laboratory. 

 

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive support across all dimensions of the Data Center environment.

Responsibilities:
  • In this role, you will deliver Level I and/or Level II technical support to server technicians, network administrators, and support personnel for various systems, including cabling, power management, space planning, and cooling management in a large and complex Data Center setting.
  • Troubleshoot complex problems that span multiple subsystems and systems, requiring in-depth knowledge of the sophisticated Data Center environment.
  • Have a strong background in IT and High-Performance Computing (HPC) infrastructure, with a solid understanding of cooling, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and chemical analysis for both open and closed-loop water systems.
  • Collaborative on data center consolidation efforts, engaging with customers to evaluate, design, and plan consolidation activities as needed.
  • Develop innovative solutions to significant and unusual problems, applying new principles, concepts, and practices to address complex or strategic issues.
  • Be a resource to executive management providing analysis of information, trends, and goals at a corporate level, contributing to the overall success and efficiency of the Data Center operations.
Qualifications:
  • BS in relevant discipline plus minimum 2 years or more years of directly related experience that demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.  
  • Active DOE Q Clearance.
  • Must be US Citizen

Required Skills:

  • Technical knowledge in virtualization technologies and data center operations.
  • Troubleshoot issues that arise in a virtual environment.
  • Experience with hypervisors and virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare ESXi, Microsoft Hyper-V)
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical personnel.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Knowledge of automation and orchestration tools (e.g. Ansible, Terraform).
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Understanding of storage technologies and configurations (SAN, NAS).
  • Familiarity with networking concepts relevant to virtualization (VLANs, Virtual switches).
  • Familiarity with Cloud-based virtualization solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Experience with installing and maintaining server hardware
