This role will manage two closely related teams: Hardhat and EDR, which together power the core of our Ethereum developer tooling stack.
The Hardhat team builds our user-facing developer platform for writing, testing, compiling, and deploying Solidity smart contracts on Ethereum and other supported chains. Hardhat supports developers end to end, from early experimentation to production systems with billions in on-chain capital, and is evolving toward a more extensible, multichain, and configurable platform that enables advanced testing, simulation, and tooling workflows.
The EDR (Ethereum Development Runtime) team builds a high-performance runtime in Rust for developer tooling. EDR currently powers Hardhat’s local network simulation for development and testing and is designed to be reused by other tools, supporting more consistent and maintainable execution across the Ethereum developer ecosystem.
This is a fully remote role, open to candidates based in Central Europe through the Americas Eastern Time zone.
We are looking for a highly technical manager with a strong engineering background, product mindset, and a thoughtful approach to people management. In this role, you’ll manage two small teams of 4 and 3 engineers, and take ownership of the whole product, shape its roadmap, create alignment across teams and with the community & stakeholders. You will provide technical guidance on architectural & design decisions, strategic direction, and occasionally do code reviews. In addition, you'll foster individual growth through thoughtful guidance and mentorship, creating a respectful and collaborative environment.
3–5+ years of experience directly managing and growing engineering teams, ideally including senior engineers and/or multiple teams, in a remote or async environment.
6+ years of experience technically leading projects and driving multi-year roadmaps.
Ability to direct without micromanaging or forcing decisions
Experience implementing or refining processes around performance reviews, career development, and hiring.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to design and implement scalable, maintainable software architectures.
Strong expertise in conducting code, design and product launch reviews, identifying potential technical issues or risks, and suggesting improvements.
Nice to have:
Prior experience building extensible developer tools, including test environments, deployment systems, build pipelines.
Experience with open source and/or TypeScript/Rust projects.

Collaborate with product managers to translate user needs and market trends into a technical roadmap.

Implement and improve processes such as performance reviews, career development plans, and efficient hiring practices.
