Accounting Engineer -Remote

Our client an innovative tech accountancy firm is seeking an accounting engineer to join their rapidly growing team.

Responsibilities:

-Act as the accounting authority inside the product.

-Define how accounting concepts should be modeled in our system, review AI extraction outputs and decide where automation is safe versus where human oversight is required

-Design approval workflows that match how accounting firms really operate, and identify edge cases before they become real client problems.

-Translate tax and VAT legislation into deterministic system logic, build classification systems for expense categories, deductibility and tax box mapping, handle industry-specific exceptions, and ensure system outputs match what actually goes onto a VAT return.

-Work hands-on with the Tech team

-An ability to understand technical systems and communicate with the Technical team

-Comfortable reading and modifying TypeScript and SQL with the help of AI tools.

-Review pull requests for accounting correctness, help shape spreadsheet-style interfaces accountants understand, and work closely with engineers on system design.

-Communicate with accounting firms, understand their pain points, prioritize features based on real workflow impact, and push back when solutions do not fit how accounting actually works.

Requirements:

The ideal candidate will have some years of experience in accounting practice, a professional qualification or progress toward one, hands-on VAT compliance experience, exposure to accounting software configuration such as Xero, Sage, QuickBooks, SAP and strong comfort with technology and AI tools.
