Information Systems Architect – Advanced Location: 100% Remote (Must reside within the U.S.) Agency: South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) Start Date: 09/01/2025 End Date: 09/02/2026 Contract Duration: 12 Months (with possible extension) Travel: Occasional travel to South Carolina may be required The South Carolina Department of Corrections (SCDC) seeks an Information Systems Architect – Advanced with extensive Health-IT experience to lead the planning, design, implementation, and ongoing support of EHR systems and healthcare technologies including Nextgen, HL7 interfaces, and health information exchange (HIE) technologies. This expert-level role will serve as a strategic leader and technical advisor on enterprise architecture, security, and interoperability of clinical systems.
Key Responsibilities
Lead planning and evolution of the agency's Health-IT systems including Nextgen EHR, PM, EDR, eMAR, and HIE solutions
Manage vendor relationships, system integration, and interface development between EHR and systems like PACs, pharmacy, labs, and offender management
Participate in the EHR build, testing, training, go-live, and optimization phases
Develop technical documentation, architectural roadmaps, reports, and dashboards using Nextgen and associated technologies
Support compliance initiatives including HIPAA, data security standards, and accreditation requirements
Evaluate and recommend new technologies and solutions that enhance efficiency, patient safety, and cost-effectiveness
Collaborate with executive leadership and multidisciplinary teams to align IT strategies with agency goals
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field (or equivalent experience)
10+ years of experience working with Electronic Health Records (EHR)
5+ years of direct experience with Nextgen EHR, PM, and EDR
Nextgen Certification
Proficiency with ICD-9/ICD-10, healthcare data interface standards, and HIE technologies
Extensive understanding of EHR template customization (Nextgen Template Editor)
Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with technical and non-technical stakeholders
Preferred Skills
Experience with HL7, SQL, and Crystal Reports
Familiarity with Mirth, eMAR, PACs, CIPS/Fusion, or Merge
Background in project management principles and methodologies
