Position: Mid-to-Senior CAD Draftsman Retail Shopfitting & Joinery Design
Location: Fully Remote (Preferably residing in Cape Town)
Salary: R400,000 R600,000 per annum (negotiable based on experience)
Experience: 3+ 5+ 7+ years in a similar role
Working Hours: UK hours (5 days a week)
Leave: 19 days annual leave + UK bank holidays
Role Overview:
We are seeking a skilled CAD Draftsman with experience in retail shopfitting and joinery design to work remotely for a UK-based company. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in Autodesk Inventor 2024 and Autodesk AutoCAD 2024, producing high-quality technical drawings and ensuring designs are optimized for CNC cutting and manufacturing processes.
Key Responsibilities:
1. CAD Drawing & Technical Design:
- Produce full Inventor drawing packs using the provided A3 drawing template.
- Generate full PDF drawing packs and GA level drawings.
- Ensure Pack & Go models are prepared in Inventor and meet ETS standards for seamless collaboration with the UK team.
2. AutoCAD & CNC Preparation:
- Create machine-ready DXFs for joinery CNC, ensuring:
- Clearly labeled materials and rebate depths.
- Separate cutting paths (not just a screen dump of Inventor parts).
- No broken lines.
- Generate laser-ready DXFs for metal parts, including flat patterns with correctly sized holes for each application (e.g., 5mm hole for M6 tapped thread).
3. IGES Files & Manufacturing Prep:
- Provide full IGES files of complete units.
- Deliver IGES files for laser-cut tubes, if necessary (e.g., slotted posts or detailed tubes).
4. Compliance & Documentation:
- Ensure all models and drawings adhere to UK manufacturing and shopfitting standards.
- Work closely with the UK team, following ETS standards to ensure all files are accessible and editable in the UK.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Software Proficiency:
- Autodesk Inventor 2024
- Autodesk AutoCAD 2024
Technical Skills:
- Strong understanding of retail shopfitting, joinery, and metal fabrication.
- Experience creating detailed CNC-ready cutting paths.
- Ability to produce manufacturing-ready drawings for wood and metal components.
- Familiarity with flat pattern metal design and laser-cut part preparation.
Education & Experience:
- Mid-Level: 3+ years of experience in a CAD drafting role related to retail, joinery, or shopfitting.
- Senior Level: 5+ years of experience with strong project delivery capabilities.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Architectural Technology, or a related field.
- Strong portfolio of past projects in retail store design, fixtures, or shopfitting.
Work Environment & Benefits:

- Salary range: R400 000 R600,000 per annum (negotiable based on experience).
