Clymac’s Design Engineers

We are seeking an experienced and enthusiastic DesignEstimating Engineer to join our fastpaced design and estimating team. In this role, you will be responsible for producing accurate and compliant fire alarm system designs and cost estimates, supporting both presales activities and project delivery. This position requires a strong technical understanding, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and clients to deliver tailored, costeffective solutions.

Lead the design and development of fire alarm system proposals, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards and regulations, including BS 5839, CDM regulations, and other applicable codes.

Manage multiple design projects simultaneously, effectively prioritising workloads based on project deadlines and business needs.

Act as a customerfacing technical expert, working alongside Business Development Managers to present and deliver tailored design proposals.

Collaborate closely with Project Managers and installation teams to assess and negotiate installation costs for supply, installation, and commissioning projects.

Ensure all designs and proposals are accurately costed, aligned with company margin expectations, and appropriately approved and signed off prior to release.

Guarantee all quotations and designs are fully compliant with current legislation and industry standards, maintaining technical accuracy and integrity.

Deliver exceptional customer service by managing design enquiries efficiently—gathering and assessing necessary information, and responding promptly to client needs.

Provide ongoing technical support, guidance, and mentorship to team members, while coordinating with other internal departments to ensure cohesive project delivery.

Oversee the administration of current enquiries, including the preparation of project handover documentation and maintenance of the SRM system.

Requirements

Proven experience as a Fire Alarm Design Engineer, ideally supported by an FIA Design Qualification or equivalent industry certification.

Strong technical knowledge of a variety of fire detection systems and manufacturers, such as Hochiki, Gent, Advanced, and Ziton.

Previous experience in a similar role, with a track record of liaising effectively with end users, contractors, and other stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.

Proficient in AutoCAD, with the ability to produce accurate, standardscompliant system designs.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a strong focus on delivering outstanding customer service.

Full, clean UK driving licence, enabling site visits and client meetings as required.

Professional, relationshipdriven approach, with the ability to build and maintain strong working relationships both internally and externally.
