Job purpose:

We are seeking a certified Freelance Digital Accessibility Specialist to lead audits of digital assets, including websites and PDFs, ensuring compliance with WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA standards. This role is ideal for professionals experienced in delivering thorough accessibility assessments, actionable remediation reports, and working independently with agency clients. The ultimate goal is to guarantee digital inclusivity by helping clients meet accessibility regulations with precision and clarity.


Job details: 

  • Location: Remote (company entity based in Costa Rica; must be able to work a UTC-6 schedule)
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. UTC-6
  • Job Type: Fixed-term, Freelance position
  • Language Proficiency: Professional proficiency in Spanish and English (B2+ reading, writing & conversation)
  • Availability: Immediate availability preferred


Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform detailed accessibility audits of digital assets (websites, PDFs) against WCAG 2.1 AA and PDF/UA-1 compliance standards.
  • Use accessibility testing tools such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, PAC 3, axesPDF, and CommonLook to manually verify and tag digital content.
  • Create comprehensive, prioritized remediation reports including issue tracking spreadsheets and clear guidance for remediation teams.
  • Manage projects independently, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality outcomes.
  • Collaborate remotely with cross-functional teams to clarify findings and support remediation efforts.
  • Keep current with accessibility legislation and industry best practices (e.g., AODA, ACA).
  • Optionally deliver client or internal training sessions on accessibility compliance and tools.


Required Academic Background:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Information Technology, Digital Accessibility, or related fields is preferred.


Required Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 3 - 5 years of professional experience auditing digital accessibility, specifically PDFs and websites.
  • Certification in IAAP CPACC, CPWA, WAS, or PDF/UA Specialist.
  • Native or near-native English fluency (written and verbal).
  • Proficiency with Adobe Acrobat Pro, PAC 3, axesPDF, CommonLook, and other accessibility compliance tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to produce clear, actionable audit reports and documentation.
  • Independent work ethic with excellent communication and project management skills.
  • Experience with web accessibility testing tools (axe DevTools, Siteimprove, WAVE) is a plus.
  • Familiarity with accessibility legislation and digital agency environments is preferred.


Nice to have

  • Experience delivering accessibility training or workshops.
  • Knowledge of additional accessibility standards and laws.
  • Background working with digital agencies or client-facing consultancies.
